Ginette's Story
I left Kitimat in 1977 to work in Vancouver. And now, I am living in Ontario, married, four kids, two with ex-husband and two step-kids with my current husband. I am living on a 10 acre hobby-farm and am retired. Thankfully. I worked for the Bank of Montreal for about 3 years, CBC for 15 years (transferred with them to Toronto) and then my current husband (Russ) and I started a software company in '95. We closed down the company in 2004 due to health issues (mine) and Russ went off to work for IBM. Where he still is. And we bought the acreage where I am now. We've been busy building a straw-bale house, greenhouse, workshop and this summer, hopefully, a summer kitchen so we can get all the food we grow processed without it having to be in the house. The house is small, just under 1000 square ft. We are off-grid, have solar and heat the house with a 100 year old wood cook-stove. Thankfully we all learned to swim! l our kids are gone from home, three boys and a girl. Two boys mine, Rhys 31 years old and Conal 27 years old, and my two step kids, Mike at 31and Kate at 26. Rhys passed away this March 20th of brain cancer. He was newly married (last September) although he and his wife were together for 12 years. We are madly planting our seeds in the hope we will get some seedlings by the end of May! I've been back to B.C. numerous times over the years, but have not been to Kitimat since my folks moved away to Kelowna in '86 (or thereabouts). My Dad is in Fort Langley, as well as my brother Steve and his family. My sister Candy is in Vancouver proper with her family. Update! I separated from my husband of 27 years in 2019 and my Dad passed away in June of 2020. Currently on the road as a full-time traveler - and loving it!! So far, I have looped from Ontario to Florida to Arizona to Ontario. Then Ontario to BC and now back in Arizona (2023). I am truly blessed to be able to do this. Next year I'll bring my Harley. :)
