Tina's Story

Life I am living and working in upstate NY. I have two children. My children have quickly grown into young adults. My son is now a sophmore at RIT. My daughter is now attending MVCC. I enjoy gardening, scrapbooking, walking, being active, and my job. I am very lucky because I have managed to find a career I absolutely love. I follow the school calendar, so I work 10 months. I work with children and it is the most rewarding, challenging, keep you on your toes, job! I am also very busy with volunteering. I do the Relay for Life, the American Heart Walk, am a Girl Scout Leader, and manage to attend all of my children's events. I drive by people sitting on their porch...and ask my children...do you think I will ever have time to JUST SIT on the porch?..then we laugh...because we all know that I will NEVER just sit. I love being active and busy. It keeps me young. School My biggest crush....I don't recall. The teacher that inspired me the most....Well, in Harrisville it was Miss Tarr...she taught me that learning is suppose to be fun. I have kept that with me with my children and with my job. In Port Leyden, Mr. Bill Anderson. I was the new kid in town and he took me under his wing and really made a difference in my life. For jr.high...Mr. Albert Higby. He allowed me to be me. He not only helped me with math problems...but gave me a strong foundation for life. I used to clean all his overhead transparencies...he counted on me and that helped me feel important during a crucial time in my life. In high school, Miss Carol Ozog. She inspired personal growth, believed in me when I needed it,and taught me things that I have used a million and one times! To go back to high school..I would...Expand for more
not change a thing. I was the fly on the wall, the mouse, a no body. No one noticed my existence..but it didn't matter. Being popular was not a goal or a need. I am happy with who I am and very happy with my life. I wouldn't change a thing. Funniest...happiest...craziest... College I enjoyed college. I wish I was still in touch with Judy, Annette, and Sylvia. They were the backbone that got me thro it all. After college graduation my life fell apart and I lost touch with them. I am sorry for that. I wonder what happened to Mike, Mike, Jeff..and I see faces and can't recall names. Workplace I began work right out of high school. I worked with the elderly. I really enjoyed visiting with them and hearing all of their wonderful stories. Unfortunately, my position didn't allow much free time to enjoy them. My coworkers were more interested in cigerettes and coffee breaks....they did not appreciate my compassion..I had to move on. Then I went to work with the developmentally disabled. What a wonderful population. They have their own agendas, live in their own worlds, and are wonderful people. I really enjoyed it..but once again my co-workers did not appreciate my compassion. I began to realize I was not where I belonged.....so I went back to college. Yes, an adult with two children and now divorced..went back to college. Besides my divorce, college was the best decision of my life. I am now a licensed, Registered Occupational Therapist. My first job was in a pre-school setting. Then, I went to work for BOCES. IN Sept. started my 11th school year!!! I also work independently...so I provide therapy services to children 0-21. It is the most rewarding, fun and absolutely wonderful job. I LOVE it.
