Todd's Story

Life I was born in Sacramento, California and lived in Carmichael and Rio Linda for a short time. My family then moved to Newark, CA. I attended pre-school, kindergarten and part of the 1st grade there at JFK Elementary. We moved back to Carmichael and I finished 1st grade and started the 2nd grade at Cameron Ranch Elementary School. In 1974 my family made a big move to Clovis, California. I attended Weldon Elementary, C. Todd Clark Intermediate and Clovis High School. I was blessed to attend the Clovis schools and I believe much of my success is due to the teachers and friends that touched my life in those few years. I am still in touch with many of my closest friends and their families from this era in my life. I graduated from high school in 1985. I worked summers with my dad for a couple of years as I attended CSU, Fresno. I went in as a Music Major and quickly changed my major to Computer Science. I ran track at Fresno State '86-'87, '87-'88 and through Fall 1988. I kept very busy between my studies, athletics and music. I also played music professionally on the side as jobs were offered to me. In May 1989, I decided to stop working long, hard summers. For the previous 10 years I had worked summers with my dad either building swimming pools or selling and distributing wholesale pool equipment for a local warehouse. I wanted to use my brains rather than my muscles for a change of pace. I interviewed with PG&E for a summer intern position as a computer analyst. I was fortunate enough to get the position out of approximately 40 others at Fresno State. This turned out to be a very wise decision. My job at PG&E was supposed to be over at the end of the summer, but they liked me well enough to offer me a year-round internship. I jumped at the offer and worked hard to attend school fulltime and work at PG&E parttime. I graduated with a BS in Computer Science in May 1991. I continu...Expand for more
ed working for PG&E as an intern and taking music classes at Fresno State after graduating, with the hope of getting my BA and MA in Music Performance/Composition. In May 1993 I was offered a position to work for PG&E on a fulltime basis and I was told I had to choose between finishing my music degree and working for PG&E. I was offered $36,000 annualy. I couldn't pass up an offer like that, so I took it. I have since made a career of it and have moved through the ranks by working very hard. I started at the bottom doing the flunky work and now I am a well-paid computer programmer/analyst just about to become a Senior Programmer/Analyst and Database Administrator. I have an office in Fresno, San Francisco and Emeryville. I basically write and support database applications for PG&E employees. I love my job, but the hours are long and the travel can be brutal at times. A few years ago, I considered applying for a Database Analyst position at Fresno State for even more money. I wanted to work closer to home and not have to travel. After thinking about all of the fringe benefits I would have to give up, I chose against it. I didn't want to start all over again just for money. I have now been working for PG&E for over 14 years. I was a contracted employee for the first 7 of those years and I have been a fulltime PG&E employee for the past 7 years. As long as they treat me and my family well, I plan to work there until I retire. Last, but not least, I was married to Annette Thissen in August 1995. She graduated from Chowchilla High School in 1990 and CSU, Fresno in 1995. I met her in Marching Band at Fresno State in 1992. At this point, we have no children, but we would both love to have 2-3 kids. We hope to buy a nice home in the Clovis area sometime soon. That's it for now! School Refer to my life bio.
