Todd's Story
I left North and went to ECC for one year and then transferred to FSU where I graduated in May, 1990. I then moved back to Fort Myers for one year and worked at a tour company near Sanibel. In 1992 I packed my stuff and moved to Atlanta, GA, where I lived for 4.5 years. After that, I was hired by the Korean Gov't to teach English in Korea. I did that for three years.
In 1999 I went to the University of Hawai'i at Manoa (near Honolulu) to get my P.B.C.S.E. (Post Baccalaureate Certificate In Secondary Education/teacher's license) and after finishing it in May 2000, I was hired by the Department of Defense Dependent Schools (for military brats) in Seoul, Korea to teach ESL and Social Studies.
I transferred from there in 2003 to Mannheim, Germany (you might remember I was pretty heavily into German in High School) where I taught ESL at the Middle School and later German, A.P. Government, and Yearbook at the High School.
During my time in Germany I attended and eventually graduated with my M.A. (Masters Degree in Ed. Tech.) from Michigan State University (summers in Plymouth, England). The graduation ceremony was in 2005 ON THE NIGHT OF OUR 20 YEAR REUNION, so I unfortunately couldn't make it back for the reunion.
In Spring, 2008, I got my Ed.S. degree (Education Specialist) in School Counseling from Argosy University (online and in Sarasota, FL) and transferred in August, 2008 to Okinawa, Japan. I was in a Ph.D. program with the University of Oklahom...Expand for more
a in Germany, but had to stop when I moved.
I began my Doctorate of Education degree (Ed.D.) in the spring of 2010 with Texas A&M University in College Station, TX. I am in my third year and am studying Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Educational Leadership . I'm looking forward to completing this degree and my education. Hard to believe how long I've been in school!
I've been fortunate enough to have traveled the world, having visited well over 80 countries on six contintents. My favorites were Australia and Tunisia, as well as Peru and China. I love my job and life and can't imagine doing anything else!
I currently work at the Department of Defense Dependent Schools Director's Office in Okinawa, Japan. I'm the DoDEA Pacific Activities Coordinator. I coordinate one-week student festivals around Asia for our students (in 12 high schools) who attend schools in Korea, Mainland Japan, Okinawa and Guam. Our conferences include Harvard Model Congress., Drama, Journalism, Music, Junior Science Humanities Symposium, Film & Entertainment Arts, LInguaFest, MathematicaFest, Culinary Arts, Creative Expressions (Visual Arts), Basic and Applied Research and Jazz. It is truly a labor of love as I organize these activities for the children of soldiers, sailors, marines and air force personnel.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. I'd love to hear from my former classmates so drop me a line. I'll do my best to respond...again, thanks!
