Tom's Story
Life
I semi-retired as of June 2012. Overall I've had a fun life. Liz, whom I dated in high school, and I have been married 47 years. We raised three children, Tom, Lisa and Karen and all completed college thankfully and are gainfully employed in their chosen fields and married to wonderful people. Tom is a the Sr. VP of IT for a large hospital in the Chicago area, Lisa is a high risk labor and delivery nurse for a large hospital in Detroit and teaches Clinical's for Nursing at a major University in the Detroit area, and Karen is a Partner and Executive Producer in the high pressure world of advertising in Portland, Or. I've had the good fortune to travel extensively in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Europe during my career. I've taught Dale Carnegie Courses in Human Relations and Public Speaking. Imagine that I use to get so up tight in high school when I had to give a report. I have worked as an audio/sound technical official for the U.S. Figure Skating Association for 12 years, a volunteer position, setting up National and International Championships venues, when they come to the USA, with sound systems and playing the music at rink side working with ABC and ESPN TV to provide live network sound for their coverage. I have my own small recording studio, which I enjoy. I am active in my community, although no political aspirations at this time. I have been a salesman for 34 years in the computer industry. I was an Electronics Engineer for 7 years and a Marketing Manager for 2 years. I started singing Karaoke in the fall of 2001. Some of my old classmates have hooked up with us at some of the Karaoke places around Detroit to sing and enjoy old memories. Liz and I have two grand daughters now. I travel in the summers on a bicycle in different places in the U.S.A. to support Multiple Sclerosis. I'm having fun and enjoying my family, friends ...Expand for more
and my life very much.
School
After graduation from Lincoln, I attended R.E.T.S. Electronic Schools to gain an education in the newly developing field of Electronic Engineering at that time. I completed my Bachelors degree at Siena Heights University in Adrian Michigan later.
College
I attended R.E.T.S. Electronic Schools in Detroit for Electronic Engineering from 1966 to 1969. Upon graduation I went to work as a Reliability Engineer for Control Data Corporation. I finished my Bachelors Degree at Siena Heights University in Adrian, Michigan. After completing my degree, I started training to teach Dale Carnegie Courses in Public Speaking and Human Relations. I started
teaching Dale Carnegie Courses in 1978, in addition to my full time engineering career. In 1978 I also made a career change by moving in to Sales for Control Data Corporation.
Workplace
I retired from sales in June 2012. My last position was Sr. Account Executive with Compsat Technology, Inc. in Southfield, MI. I left Hewlett Packard Co. (HP) in March, 2006. I have previously worked at Control Data Corporation, Computer Peripherals Inc., Amdahl Corporation, AT&T, NCR, and Hatachi Data Systems. I am currently producing music in my own recording studio (Raspberry Productions), part time.
High Interest
I have been developing my skills and endurance in long distance bike riding (the pedal kind) over the past three years. In June of 2012, I completed my first 100 mile ride for Multiple Sclerosis in Holland Michigan in one day. I have been riding approximately 2000 miles each summer. I rode my bike around the perimeter of the Michigan Lower Peninsula (1400 miles) in the summer of 2013 and I rode around the Lake Superior and Michigan Upper Peninsula (1800 miles) in the summer of 2014 all to support Multiple Sclerosis. Still planning future rides as long as I stay healthy.
