Tom's Story
I grew up on small farm about 5 miles outside of Piketon, Ohio... near Zahn's Corner. I played drums in the High School band and in a small rock band. I don't know if we were very good, but we had lots of fun doing it. June of 1976 FINALLY came and went, leaving me with limited options. My brother Jeff was at OSU, Susan and Joe were still in school. The Pike County job market had SO much to offer (NOT) and the prospects for employment (or lack of...) in southern Ohio were staggering! The Navy made me an offer I could not refuse, so I spend the next 10 years sampling wine, women and song in every country in the South Pacific.
After the Navy, I went back to school and picked up a couple of college degrees, one for work and one for fun!
I married twice.... the second one seems to be working.
I got a Private Pilot license in the mid 1990's. Spent two weeks in Hawaii getting a glider license at 'Soar Hawaii', I highly recommend these guys, Reba was a blast to fly with!!!.
I picked up some aerobatic training at Chandler Air Services in Arizona. They teach in open cockpit bi-planes....the only way to dance in the sky!!!
In 2008, I bought a small aerobatic plane and will eventually fly it coast to coast. I'll stop in at Waverly's airport when I do.......Waverly actually has an airport, who knew!?!?
UPDATE: Sept 20, 2013 I bought my second plane and flew it coast to coast! I departed from the Wright Brothers Memorial on the outer banks of North Carolina and flew out over the Atlantic Ocean before heading west. My first stop was Waverly's airport for an overnight visit with family and friends. The next two stops were in Oklahoma for fuel and sleep. After one last fuel stop in New Mexico I headed southwest until I was o...Expand for more
ut over the ocean at La Jolla, CA.
Total flight time: 15 hours, Cost of Fuel; $1200, Flying Coast to Coast in your own airplane: Priceless!
I have been working for Allianz Global Investors since 1995. I prefer the San Diego office, but I have enjoyed working in the Manhattan and Dallas offices, too.
I like to fly anything with wings, but prefer tail wheel aircraft. I rarely turn down good tequila and have grown quite fond of red wine. Bordeaux and old vine Syrah are my current favorites. Malbec is a new taste I have recently encountered and there are quite a few Merlot, Zin, Syrah blends are quite tasty!
Most of the 1980's I was traveling, courtesy of Uncle Sam's Canoe Club, in the South Pacific and I am quite pleased to say I was absent for the entire Disco era. I like that old tyme rock and roll....James Gang, Joe Walsh, Black Sabbath, Grand Funk Railroad and will totally walk out at the first hint of rap-crap or techno.
I have recently read all of the Maximum Ride series, most of Stephen R. Donaldson work and a bunch of Anne McCaffrey's books. I have enjoyed all the Star Trek, Harry Potter and Hobbit movies. Topgun and Tuskegee Airmen can never be played too often. I don't have much time for regular TV, but I do record True Blood, Grim and Game of Thrones for viewing on my schedule.
My favorite actoress is Katie Morgan, I have recorded ALL of her HBO specials!
For some reason, I don't remember much about High School.... Mostly that I wanted to get the hell out of there and go SOMEWHERE and do SOMETHING ... ANYTHING ...... !!!
Please contact me here or on FB and tell me where you are, what you are doing.
Yes, I really want to know!
Even if you just refresh my memory of all the stupid things I did or said!!!
