Tom's Story
Life
After graduating from LaSalle Academy in Providence, RI in 1984, I decided to go West -- way west -- to Los Angeles to attend Loyola Marymount Univ. While there I spent my junior semester abroad in Spain where I fell in love and married a beautiful señorita española. She came to my graduation in May 1988 and we have been together ever since. We went back to Spain to get married in 1990. We stayed in Los Angeles and both worked as bilingual teachers until the big earthquake in 1994. We then moved to Arizona because we both found bilingual teaching jobs and affordable housing:) We have one beautiful daughter and travel to Spain every year now. We don't get back to Rhode Island as often, but we do enjoy summers there when possible.
One of John Lennon's last messages from his song, Beautiful Boy (Double Fantasy), has always stuck in my head and served as a reality check for me at times: "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans."
Life is grand. Take it all in. Don't just "stop to smell the roses", but pick them, hold them, admire them and please share them with your loved ones :)

ded Loyola Marymount University. In my junior year I spent a semester studying in Salamanca, Spain, where I fell in love with and married a beautiful señorita named Inma. After graduating college I lived 6 more years in Los Angeles with my wife and worked as an elementary school teacher in the inner city, instructing Hispanic students in Spanish and English as a second language. I got my Master's degree in Bilingual Education and decided to live the big city after the earthquake in 1994. We moved to Scottsdale, Arizona because we both found bilingual teaching jobs in Phoenix. We have been in Scottsdale since 1994 and absoultely love it here. Last summer I decided to go back to school to get another Master's degree in Spanish in my wife's home town of Salamanca, Spain. It was wonderful to go back to the place where we met and study my favorite subject again.
We go back to Spain once a year now, and are trying to getr back to Rhode Island more often as well.
Life is grand. Take it all in. Cherish every moment with your family. Don't get caught up in the material race. Remember John Lennon's last words from the song Beautiful Boy, Double Fantasy) "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans.
