After graduating from Lyons Township High School in LaGrange, IL, I went on to study Industrial Engineering at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA. Shortly before graduating the Viet Nam war ended which changed my 5 year service commitment to 3 months active duty and 8 years reserve. Since I had thought that I was guaranteed a job for 5 years, I made no direct career plans beyond that. However, through a college teammate I fell into a job teaching and coaching at Blair Academy in Blairstown, NJ. I immediately loved both teaching and coaching and I knew that I wanted to spend the rest of my career doing it. After 10 years at Blair I went back to my alma mater, Lehigh, to be an assistant wrestling coach. After 6 years as assistant I became the head coach. I loved this job too, but I also knew that I didn't want to be traveling around the country recruiting when I was in my 50s, so I left for a public school teaching and coaching job at Warren Hills, NJ.
