Tom's Story
When I first started school in 1946 Verdun I went to Woodland School for Grades 1 & 2,where Mr Dryborough was the Principal. In Grade One my teacher was Miss Ayres and in Grade Two my teacher at that time was Miss Inder. Due to us living in the Avenues of Verdun the School Board decided to establish boundaries and those living on Fourth Ave and down were transferred from Woodland to Bannantyne School where Mr Harrison was Principal . I attended Grades 3, 4 & 5 there My teacher in Grade 3 I can't recall her name but in Four we had Mrs Unney and in Five we had a WITCH named Miss Tate who married and her name became Mrs Hargrave. During the Summer of 1951 we moved from Verdun to the East End Montreal Community of Tetreaultville on Contrecoeur Street a fantastic place to grow up at that time.I took the School bus to Maisonneuve School each day. I first went there in Grade Six and my teacher was Mrs Dodds and in Seventh Grade my teacher was Mrs Galley. Miss Cockerline was the other Seventh Grade teacher. I remember Mr Leslie was the Gym Teacher and Mr C.J. Fraser was the Principal and if my memory serves me right Miss McNaughton was the Woodwork Teacher (Industrial Arts). I have fond memories of my early days at Maisonneuve School. I went on from there to Montreal High School then on to The Bell Telephone Company of Canada starting as a young Lineman then Cable Splicer and later as a Construction Manager working in both Quebec and Ontario as well as Saudi Arabia and the Philippines. I took early retirement in March 1990 at 49 years of age after 33 years of service. I have since 1976 lived in Milton Ontario with the exception of the years 1978 thru to the end of 1983 where I lived abroad working in the Middle and Far East for Bell Canada International. Back in June 1964 I married a fantastic girl , Sandra Cormack from Wilson Avenue in...Expand for more
N.D.G. who had graduated from Montreal High for Girls in 1960. We were married for 28 great years until she passed away in June of 1992 from Lou Gehrig's Disease ( ALS). Since retiring from Bell in March of 1990 I have owned and operated a Utility Construction Company a small trucking & logistics company and also owned a PakMail Canada Shipping Franchise in Burlington Ontario up till March of 2018 where our slogan was "WE SHIP ANYTHING ANYWHERE". . I am a Life Member of Kin Canada an all Canadian Service Club where I have been a member since 1965 starting with the Ville D"Anjou and the Chateauguay Valley Club in Quebec where I was the Deputy Governor of that Zone and the Milton & District Club in Ontario.. To keep up my involvement in the community I have sat on numerous boards such as the Milton District Hospital Foundation where I was the Chair in 1999 and again in 2001, I was the President of the Milton Evergreen Cemetery Company and had been since 1994,and retired from that position in August 2021 other than that I lead a pretty quiet life with my life partner Rose Mary Landry (Lucas) who also is originally from Contrecoeur Street .in Tetreaultville.... I have two children, a son Alan William and a daughter Wendy and also have five grandchildren and one great grandson. I am very sad to report that my Son Alan William (Aged 55 years) passed away in December 2021 after fighting a severe case of viral pneumonia. That was a devastating blow to our Family. but life goes on and time stops for no one. I make the most of each day and try to enjoy life in the winter of my life eh. No Regrets only good memories remembering that the road of life is not a straight one but one that has curves, cul de sacs and sometime dead ends but we have to find ways to get back on the straight one so that we can forge ahead into the future.
