Life After high school at John Muir, I attended Pasadena City College until I was drafted into the army in 1969. I was trained at Fort Ord in infantry. I became a paratrooper at Fort Benning and parachute rigger at Fort Lee, Virginia. Then I was sent to Viet Nam. I entered college at Cal Poly in 1971 as an architect major with a minor in urban planning. I married my wife Laurie my senior year in 1975 and got a paid internship as an urban planner with the City of Arcadia the same year. Arcadia hired me as an Assistant City Planner the following year. We started off living in a small apartment in Arcadia and I would walk to work through a large park. My son Joshua was born in that apartment in 1976. My wife and I both became Christians that same year. The week following the birth of my son, we moved into our first house in Monrovia where two and a half years later my daughter Rachel was born.
