Tom's Story
Life
I've been married three times and divorced twice. The first one lasted 20 years, the second one lasted 8 years, and this time will be forever. We share our faith in God and trust Him to help us resolve our disagreements, which are bound to happen when two people live together.
I have two "kids" from my first marriage, one of each. My son served in the army for ten years and is still in the reserves. He won the title of Best Warrior in 2016. That makes him the best Sergeant in the entire US Army that year. My daughter has two kids of her own, one of each. Both of my kids are the pride and joy of my life. Both of my parents have passed away, and are buried in Sorrento Valley, which gives me reason to go to San Diego from time to time.
I lived my entire life in California, until May 2018 when I moved to the Atlanta, Georgia, area. Since leaving San Diego, I've lived in Van Nuys, Tustin, Riverside, Lakewood, Norwalk, Long Beach, Laguna Niguel, Irvine, and Costa Mesa, all of which are in California. In Georgia, we started in Alpharetta, and moved to Marietta in August, 2018, where we bought a house.
School
Life at Madison was great. Being involved in sports kept me involved in school.
I loved to run in cross country and track because it allowed me to create friendships with guys that were just as crazy as me. It also challenged me to get off my butt and work. The euphoria from a hard workout really made me appreciate life.
Being the sports editor of "The Talon" let me write about what the rest of the jocks were doing in their sports. Those were the days: my cut and paste skills were honed well when I had to do it literally. Now, writers just do it electr...Expand for more
onically.
My only regrets are that I was too shy on dates, and wasn't able to have a girlfriend to share the high school experience with.
College
Life was good while I was at San Diego State. After six years at San Diego State University, I got my four year degree in 1977. (That's what happens when you work your way through school so you don't have to take out any loans.) My BS is in Business Administration, with a major in Accounting.
Workplace
Now I'm working as a Traffic Manager for Walmart in the eCommerce Fulfillment Center in Atlanta.
I worked for Shimano for nine months before we decided to move to Georgia. My previous employers include: Harbor Freight Tools, Yusen Logistics, Dollar Tree, Office Depot, The Home Depot, and FedEx Kinko's.
Prior to those companies, I worked for Pacific Theatres for 32 years, in several key positions throughout the state of California. I started as an usher at the Clairemont Theatre. Subsequent positions included Director of Snack Bar Operations, Director of Swap Meet Operations and Director of Roller Hockey Operations. My last position was General Manager of Cal Bowl, its 68-lane bowling center in Lakewood, until I was laid off in 2004.
Because of the relationship between Coca-Cola and the threatre company, the company was given a relay leg in Los Angeles for the Olympic Torch Relay to Atlanta in 1996. I was selected as the theatre company's representative to carry the Olympic Torch, as it began its cross country travel to Atlanta. I carried the torch that is in my picture group on the first day of the relay. Coke let me keep the torch without having to buy it. What a memorable event it was to get to participate in!
