mens downsized I moved on to Advanced Medical Optics in 2006 as VP of R&D for their LASIK eye surgery equipment business, which tanked in 2008 when the recession hit since it is a consumer business. Spent the next 3 years as Principal Scientist at Pelikan Technologies developing a glucose meter which incorporated the meter, a painless lancing device, and a cassette of test strips all in one device. We were successful technically but by 2010 none of the big guys (J&J, Abbott, etc.) wanted to buy us so the business closed. Spent the next 10 years as Foxburg LLC consulting with new medical device companies teaching them how to be a medical device company given the approach to engineering required in such a business. Retired in 2019.to make wine, bake artisan bread, and volunteer with World Central Kitchen among other charities.
