Dr. Tom's Story

EMMET C. (TOM) THOMPSON II, D.S.L., M.S. Tom Thompson entered the health and fitness industry after a 20-year career in commercial real estate. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management from LeTourneau University, a Master of Science Degree in Kinesiology from the University of North Texas, a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Organizational Leadership from Regent University, and a Doctor of Strategic Leadership Degree from Regent University. In the Fall of 2008, Tom began work on a Master of Arts Degree in Teaching from Austin College. Dr. Thompson is an active researcher and published author. For instance, he has co-authored articles in peer reviewed academic journals, and co-authored the book, Fit To Lead, St. Martin's Press, New York. In addition to his writing, Dr. Thompson also lectures to both lay and academic groups. Dr. Thompson was a member of the fitness staff at the world-renowned Cooper Fitness Center in Dallas, Texas, where for six years he was the head martial arts instructor and a personal trainer. He is certified as a Physical Fitness Specialist through the Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research. aculty of LeTourneau University, where he teaches in the MBA program. In addition, he teaches an undergraduate course he helped develop entitled, "Lifetime Fitness for Executives". Moreover, Dr. Thompson was an adjunct professor in the Doctor of Strategic Leadership program with the School of Global Leadership and Entrepreneurship at Regent University. Dr. Thompson is a former Board of Advisor member of the American Council on Martial Arts, and served as the ACMA's National Certification Director. The ACMA and the Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research co-sponsored an exercise science certification for martial arts instructors. Tom is an American-born grandmaster in Tae Kwon Do, and holds the rank of 9th. degree black belt. In addition, he holds the rank of 1st. degree black belt in Kobudo (Okinawan weapons). Tom is also the founder and former director of the Fellowship of Christian Martial Artists. On November 14, 2009, Tom became the oldest player in college football history by converting a PAT in the second quarter of the game between Austin College and Trinity University. Tom and his wife, Teresa, own AFC Management, Inc., a fitness management firm that owns and operates the Alpha Fitness Centers in the Dallas - Ft. Worth Metroplex. They have three children, Eric, Rachel and Jon Rawles.
