August 2026. Thomasbwelch at gmail. I've spent most of my life in the Midwest, mainly in Minnesota. My formal education came from public schools in Florida and college in Missouri. My adult life has been a steady paddle up the Mississippi River, from Arkansas to Missouri to Minnesota. Graduated from Southwest Baptist College in Missouri in 1978. Around 2018 they awarded me an honorary doctorate of business, which was quite a surprise. After college I lived in Arkansas. I met my wife, Robin, and our first two children were born. I began my investment career in the small town of Pine Bluff (you can't make this stuff up). We moved to Little Rock. Saw Halley's comet. Professionally, I helped develop/implement/maintain investment strategies for large companies, foundations, and the like. In some form I did this my whole career. Saw quite a bit of the world. Fascinating work during four explosive decades in financial markets. 1990 to 2003 we lived in St. Louis, Missouri. I get back there 2-3 times a year to see family. I saw the flooding of the Mississippi River and comet Hale-Bopp. Did some political stuff, saw a presidential campaign up close. Met some folks who used to be famous.
