Tom's Story

Life Well, it's January 2006 and I find myself single with no kids. I started a great career with the government this past year and it has been going great! I feel like things are starting to fall into place in my life. I'm just missing one thing - my own family. It will come in due time, I'm sure. I don't need to rush anything! Find out more about me on my space under rebelmba. School Wow, I've been to many different schools in four different states. Perks of moving around I guess. I learned a lot about life in school. I saw some of my best friends from St. Pius turn into drug users and waste. I lost touch with pretty much everyone from childhood after that (just reconnected with one of my best friends though - Jeff). I keep in touch with two friends from my second high school (Gar-Field HS). It'll be interesting to go to the 10 year reunion in '07. I miss playing baseball, and oddly enough football (HSE football - I still remember our fight song! "Hamilton Southeastern High, we are the Royals brave and true..." Haha!) Nothing was better than playing baseball though. Sucks that I tore up my shoulder. I would have loved to play college ball. God had different plans for me. Great memories, great people, great times. I miss the innocence of it all! Anyone out there that remembers me, feel free to hit me up sometime. College College in Las Vegas! Can you really beat that? I don't think so! It was rough at times though. There were many nights playing blackjack or craps until the wee hours of the morning, only to have to go to class the next day. You're only y...Expand for more
oung once, right? The residence halls were fun. I really got into student leadership at UNLV. I was a Resident Assistant the second semester of my freshman year and all of my sophmore year. I was a Resident Office Manager for my junior and senior years. Great times! I also was involved in the Residence Hall Association and I was the President of the UNLV Chapter of the National Residence Hall Honorary. I brought a regional student leadership conference to UNLV (PACURH No Frills 2001) and helped UNLV win the Student Award for Leadership Training in 1999. I was a Student Ambassador for the University as well (I was like Tom Green in the movie "Road Trip". That's right, I gave tours and I also got to smooze with Alumni and donors.). Then there was grad school. Not as tough as I thought it would be. I just don't understand how some people can have a college degree and still not understand some of the most basic concepts! Oh well, it served me well and helped me land my current job. Great memories and great friends that I'll have forever! Workplace I worked for UNLV's Disbursements Office during my last semester of my undergrad thru grad school. It was a great place to work and my co-workers were awesome. I owe a lot to those people and that office. I left in May of '05 for the federal government. I now work for the National Nuclear Security Administration. I won't get too much into it, because I can't and you don't want to know. Just know it's a great job with great benefits all around. I'm looking forward to a long and successful career with the federal government!
