Toni's Story

How do you hope old friends remember you? I would hope they would remember me period! Do you have a hero? Talk about where your inspiration comes from. Jesus is my hero and my example. However, I fall very short of him. Where have you lived? Why did you move? I have lived in Wisconsin, Illinois, North Carolina and South Dakota. I was born St Joseph, MO. Lived most of my life up to 3rd grade in Beloit, WI area. Third grade we moved to North Carolina and fifth grade we moved to South Dakota. During 5th grade we moved to Bell Center, WI where my mother had been born and my where grandma also was born and lived. Moved to Adams-Friendship in my sophomore year of High School and graduated from there in 1962. Got married the end of 1962 and lived in Wisconsin Rapids where my husband was a police officer. After four years on the Force he quit to go into plumbing. In the mid 60's we moved to southern part of Wisconsin and lived for one year in Delavan, one year in Lake Geneva and several years rural Elkhorn. Moved from Elkhorn in 1978 to Eau Claire and spent 10 years in Eau Claire and then moved to rural Colfax, WI which is where I'm at now. I may be selling as the place is too big for me to handle since my husband died. Thinking of moving to southwestern part of WI (Gays Mills) where my brother is. If I won $100 million, I'd give none of it to anyone, then spend the rest on me, me and me. My current age is 68. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be dead. I was so completely wrong and I'm glad that I am. The alternative isn't a good thought. My career aspirations are pretty much over as I'm retired and enjoying it. My best friend would tell you I'm fun to be with, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as stuck-up. How do you hope old friends remember you? Someone that they would want to reconnect with. I always wanted to be a brain surgeon when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a brainy idea. As it turns out, they were brain-dead. How do you blow off steam? Describe your favorite way to relax? I usually keep it in then explode once or twice a year. Not the best thing to do I know. What is the wildest thing you ever did in school? Pushed an eighth-grade boy off the school steps when I was in fifth grade. Didn't like him or his comments and I don't feel any remorse after all these years. Which teacher would you love to see again? Why? Mrs. Kegal from Gays Mills High School. She was a hard teacher but you learned from her. Never completed college but I ...Expand for more
worked at UWEC for 6 1/2 years until retirement and the students were awesome. To be truly happy, you would be where, doing what, with whom? I'm not sure what the answer to this would be as there are good and bad situations wherever you are. What happened to your first crush? That would be Billy Garron from the second grade at Cunningham Grade School in Beloit, WI. He moved to Texas on Valentine's Day. Never forgot him and often wonder what happened to him. What's the weirdest job you ever had? I worked at a funeral home and loved it! It's the living you have to be afraid of not the dead! I share my home with two dogs and three cats, which I find to be more than I bargained for. Talk about your oldest friend—how you met and why you clicked. My oldest friend...I have several. My very best friend was my cousin, Virginia. I could be myself with her and we had a ball. Then there is Helen from Gays Mills High School and Sandy and Carole who I graduated from Adams-Friendship High School with. There is Diane and Rich who my husband and I met in 1963 when he knocked over their mailbox and I still keep contact with them; there is Judy, Jan and Patty who I keep contact with now on a weekly basis. Patty is in California but we talk a couple times a week. Jan and Judy have retired from the County but we go out to eat every now and then. Share a childhood memory you'll never forget. My grandma Bloom...I loved her with all my heart and still hear her voice in my memories. I really do miss her. We would go to see her and I would ask if I could go out to the woodshed as I loved the smell of fresh-cut wood. I laugh about it now as she would always come check on me and I'm sure she thought I would burn the shed down. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Billy Garron, because he was my first boy friend and he moved to Texas. Life doesn't always turn out the way you expect. What's been your biggest surprise? Marriage of 45 years. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel dining area and add on a sunporch. My dream home would be high in the mountains or by the seashore in Figi. Parent? Share what you've learned from your kids. How to be a better parent by the time the grandchildren came around. You get one do-over. What do you do differently? ME! What about you would surprise everyone at your high school reunion? Not sure. My first job was at Friendship Cafe, where I got paid (don't remember) to wait tables. What I remember most about it is spilling a whole plate of spagetti all over the front of my uniform.
