For the thousands of people that I've met at the 16 schools I have attended, I'm sure people remember me as outspoken, a little nerdy and short! Well, rest easy that none of that has changed..lol. I always wanted to be a doctor when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were mistaken. After my mother passed away in 1994, when I was 16, I felt it my responsibility to ensure that my 11 year old brother would not succumb to the harsh hand that life had dealt us. From that point on I did everything I could at 16 and on to keep him out of trouble. Somewhere in my life I began to have some weird interest in the gang lifestyle (I never joined one) but I began to research the history of gangs and the effects on young men and women in my community. Since I had somehow succeeded with keeping my brother away from all of that, I figured I'd help the rest if I could. So, currently I am the Asst. Director of Gang Intervention Services for a non profit organization. I love the work I do. Sometimes, it is so hard to keep going. We have lost a lot of young people to the streets and the prison system, however there are some wonderful success stories and those are the ones that keep me going.
