Tracee's Story
For the thousands of people that I've met at the 16 schools I have attended, I'm sure people remember me as outspoken, a little nerdy and short! Well, rest easy that none of that has changed..lol.
I always wanted to be a doctor when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a great idea. As it turns out, they were mistaken.
After my mother passed away in 1994, when I was 16, I felt it my responsibility to ensure that my 11 year old brother would not succumb to the harsh hand that life had dealt us. From that point on I did everything I could at 16 and on to keep him out of trouble. Somewhere in my life I began to have some weird interest in the gang lifestyle (I never joined one) but I began to research the history of gangs and the effects on young men and women in my community. Since I had somehow succeeded with keeping my brother away from all of that, I figured I'd help the rest if I could. So, currently I am the Asst. Director of Gang Intervention Services for a non profit organization. I love the work I do. Sometimes, it is so hard to keep going. We have lost a lot of young people to the streets and the prison system, however there are some wonderful success stories and those are the ones that keep me going.
I blow off steam and stress from work by hitting the highway !!! I absolutely love road trips. I'll go anywhere i...Expand for more
n a car! I love stopping at rest stops and taking pictures of state signs. Vegas is my favorite place to go and "let loose"! I love the sound of the slot machine ringing and chimming, just hoping for the jack pot.
The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Cari-Ann Barker, because she was the absolute best friend anyone could have . Cissi and her family took me in when family didn't. She became a sister and I love her dearly. We were friends from Jr. High all the way into our twenties. We had a huge blow up (unnecessary)and things were never the same. I've searched for her for a while now and hope to one day reconnect.
Life doesn't always turn out the way you expect but you gotta keep rolling with the punches. I have had some major life upsets but I'm still here and I know that I'm getting stronger by the moment. Life is a beautiful experience and I wouldn't change anything because if I did, I wouldn't be the person I am today! I am fortunate to have a wonderful relationship with my little brother who is my best friend. I never thought in a million years (while we were kids)that we'd grow up to be the best of friends. I think it's pretty cool.
If I won 100 million dollars, I'd give half of it to my brother and his beautiful family. I'd tithe and build my own non profit organization. That would make me truly happy.
