Tracy's Story

Life 5.26.03 - Hi! I currently live in Orange County, but I visit San Diego often to see family and friends. I work with a radio network to perfect my voice and audio skills. It's so much fun, and my show airs weekly on the Internet, although air times vary at the moment. I am currently pursuing my dream career as a comic strip artist. It's rather time-consuming to try and get some of my work done, but in due time, I will get around to working on my second batch so I can submit them. So, yeah...life as an artist can be tough, but I'm hanging in there because I can't see myself doing anything else. No more customer service/office/sales/strict dress-code jobs for me, thank you. Recently, it dawned on me that I've become too stubborn and right-brained to do any of that anymore. So, that's what's going on with me these days. I got my Bachelors in TV/Film Production at SDSU in 2001. I moved to L.A. afterwards, but then moved to O.C. about a year later because living in L.A. was too crazy for me. I'm still single, and I don't have kids. I would love to hear from you, so send me some email! :) Tracy School 7.12.03 - A lot of fond memories come to mind when I think about school, junior high in particular. I could never forget Band, Honors, and ASB. I have a lot of footage of competitions, concert performances, projects, and field trips. I remember bringing that darn video camera with me almost everywhere we went, and I'm so glad I did for I now have a lot to look back on and appreciate. I also drew the cover for our 9th grade yearbook. Other than that, I remember watching "Degrassi Junior High" and "Degrassi High" during homeroom (aka "Advisory")! LOL Oh yeah, we also watched "Voyage of the Mimi" in science class. :) Grunge broke through around that time, so I did wear flannels and Doc Marten's. Ha ha! I started doing things to my hair, too. In 8th grade, I put Sun-In and then in 9th grade, my hair was still long, but the bottom was shaved. My hair has gone through many different phases since. :) High school was good for the most part. Most of my elementary school and junior high friends went to Montgomery High and Chula Vista High, so life at BV was a little tough at first. But, I continued on with Band and we had a lot of fun and a lot of laughs. I miss competing in parades and field shows. I simply miss playing tenor sax. Jazz and Pep Band were fun, too. In my senior year, I also joined the Crusader Newspaper Staff as Art Editor and drew cartoons. Drawing was probably my earliest passion aside from music, so I felt the need to do something with it again before graduating. As for elementary school, I sort of have to strain to remember some things. ...Expand for more
I attended La Mirada Elementary from Kindergarten to 2nd grade before transferring to Silver Wing. Let's see...I remember wearing braces in 4th grade, I drew a lot, I was sort of a tomboy, I played clarinet for one year, and 6th grade camp at Camp Fox was a blast. Remember goal folders and table captains in homeroom? Heh Heh Ah, those were the days. To all of you who knew me growing up, thanks for being a part of my life during those times. Your encouragement has never left me, so I sure hope to come up with a published "Tracy Ibarreta Cartoon" (as many of you put it) soon. College 7.12.03 - College was okay...no, it pretty much sucked. Ha Ha. I remember feeling so burnt out and wanting to get it over with. Unlike my earlier school days, I was not involved in any extra-curricular activities whatsoever. It took me 5 1/2 years (3 1/2 at SWC and 2 at SDSU) to finish mostly due to the delay of transfer policies that required you to take a bunch of classes that had nothing to do with your major. Luckily, I got into the film program at SDSU the first time around. I remember people stressing over the fact that it was a hard program to get into. I did some partying, but nothing too hard. Again, I was primarily interested in getting out of there ASAP. Towards the end of college, I started hanging out with friends at work more so than anyone on campus. I remember working myself to death. LOL I went to school full-time while working full-time. It was crazy, but I wouldn't have had it any other way. I wanted to see how much I could handle. Despite my ranting about my days in college, there were some highlights. Right before my last year, I received a $3,000 scholarship from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. I submitted a reel featuring some of my work, thinking that I wasn't going to get this scholarship, but to my surprise, I did (along with three other students), and it covered my last year at SDSU. My scholarship was awarded to me at the San Diego Emmy Awards held at Sea World that year. Another highlight was when our final project, a short film my group made in Advanced Film Production, won at the Brussels Film Festival in November of 2001. My part in the project was editing. Anyway, I didn't go to Brussels because it was too expensive. Oh well. A big weight was lifted off my shoulders when I graduated. My family, friends, and I had lunch at the Fish Market, and later on that evening, I had a get-together at Claire de Lune, a splendid cafe in North Park. Shortly after that, I drove up to Central California for a week and checked out Morro Bay, San Luis Obispo, a couple of historic missions, and Hearst Castle. It was a present to myself. :)
