Tracy's Story
Life:
Moved from Proctorville, Ohio to Merritt Island, Florida in 1983. After graduation, I worked locally for a couple of years then joined the military. Serena and I married in 1995 and we now live in Georgia, as does our daughter Alyssa and her husband Andrew, as well as our son Ryan. Hard to believe we've been together for over 30 years.
I officially retired from the Army in 2009. After retirement, I worked for Booz Allen Hamilton, working at Fort Gordon, GA and in Afghanistan, where I worked Force Protection issues. I finished my time with Booz Allen in 2018 and fully retired on 20 acres in rural Georgia.
I'm still a big kid most of the time; my kids like that about me. I have several hobbies, which include turning wrenches, building things, repairing things, and just any project that comes my way. I have spent about 12 years, off and on, as a volunteer leader with the Boy Scouts of America.
Philosophy:
Like most folks, I've done things that I shouldn't have and, when possible, I have apologized to those affected. I acknowledge my mistakes and I have learned from them, but they are my errors and are part of the experiences which have contributed to the person I have become. I am at peace.
Philosophy pt 2:
I believe every person changes. I do not hold grudges for what others have done in the distant past; it simply does not matter in the present. If I did something to hurt your feelings when I was a teen, I'm not that person anymore and neither are you. Let's talk about it over coffee and see if we can find resolution.
School:
I was not a great student in high school and I'm amazed I graduated (and carried a B average). I remember some events better than others: Sadie Hawkins dance, February 1985 or Grad Night or prom the same year. Some older music triggers some nostalgic memories. Despite some missteps in my late teens, it was a pretty good time.
There were so many people who were important to me that I cannot list them all. Chances are, if you were a friend to me then, I remember you still. Even some folks I barely knew still wander the cob-webbed regions of my memory.
College:

Let's see: University of Maryland 89-90, University of Colorado '93, Pikes Peak Community College '94, University of Maryland 94-97, Indiana University '98, University of Maryland 01-02, and American Military University 03-09. And for all that I have an AA from the University of Maryland, a BS from Excelsior College and a BA from AMU. I considered a masters program, but decided against it.
Military:
I'll try to keep the acronyms to a minimum for those who have never been around the military. I use only the city names, just in case you have never heard of the Fort/facility.
Enlisted into the Army in 1987. After basic training, I attended language training in Monterey, CA and followed that with AIT in San Angelo, TX and another short course at Fort Devens, MA. Served in Germany 89-91, with some time in Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Kuwait. Next up was Colorado Springs, CO followed once again by Germany 94-97 (with stops in Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia). Spent next 3 years at Fort Meade, MD then returned to Germany. I spent 6 months in Italy in support of KFOR operations then closed that bit down in Feb 03. I deployed to Balad, Iraq in Aug 2003 and returned from there in Aug 04. I did another tour at Fort Meade, MD until Jan 2007 when I was ordered back to Iraq in lieu of retirement. That was a bit of a surprise to be sure. I spent 12 months in Iraq as the NCOIC of a Military Transition Team, training the Iraqi Army to assume the security mission within Iraq. Additionally, I attended numerous professional schools and held responsibility for literally millions in equipment. I served in three conflicts and have more decorations than I really care for. However, it was one hell of a ride and I'm glad it's concluded.
One of the best things about serving in the military getting to travel (not the deployments). I was fortunate enough to visit England, Ireland, France, Belgium, Luxemburg, Netherlands, Poland, Italy, Austria, and Germany. I wish I had seen more of Europe.
