Travis's Story
Life
Don't suppose that I was in any danger of being wildly popular in high school, so when I went to Penn State for college I saw no reason not to continue being maladjusted. I spent most of my time becoming increasingly left-wing and became heavily involved in the anti-apartheid and Latin America solidarity student movements of the late 80's. That combined with taking way too many classes that had nothing to do with my major put me on the 5 year plan.
I'd say that I finally finished with a degree in Computer Science, but 3 days before I was to receive my degree I was kicked out of the University for my leadership of a demonstration against the CIA. Oh, well. With training in the computer field it didn't matter much whether I had a piece of paper.
After leaving school I moved to Philadelphia and soon got a job as a computer programmer at a software development company. With one company change since I have run the gamut from just doing code to being the Director of Product Development with a staff of 15. Now I'm worki...Expand for more
ng as the Manager of Software Products for a contract programming company in the interactive television business.
In early 2001, my boss convinced me to poke Penn State about the AWOL degree and I managed to cajole them into giving it to me. So, I received my official B.S. in Computer Science in May, 2001. I think I was just a little bit older than the rest of the graduating class.
I'm still as political as I can be and hold down a full-time job and own a house in West Philadelphia with my wife of 10 years (though we've lived together for more than 19 years). She is another commie pinko that I met at Penn State.
Well, we finally broke down and spawned. Dylan Ryan Parchman was born on January 8, 2007. Now we get to experience what most of our friends went through 10 to 15 years ago. It's been great, but it's definitely a little tougher at our age.
The 20th reunion was a welcome opportunity to see folks I haven't seen in a very long time (Hmmm, 20 years as a matter of fact). I hope to see more folks at the 25th.
