Troy's Story
Life
I am currently stationed in Bangor, WA onboard the USS JIMMY CARTER (SSN 23) which is a fast attach submarine. I am a Fire Control Technician Chief which means that I am responsible for putting ordinance on target and also in charge of the LANs onboard. I have been in the Navy since 95 and intend on making it a career. I am trying to be accepted for an officer program specializing in submarine/surface electronics or ordinace. I graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 2005 while on shore duty in Washington DC. I am currently single and still have not found the right one yet, came close but no cigar. I enjoy the travel that the Navy has allowed me, including Iceland, Norway, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, Scotland, Ireland, Gilbralter, and the Middle East. In the little free time that I have I enjoy reading up on quantum physics and golfing, hunting, skiing and whatever seems to hold my interest for the day. For a while in DC I was back into wrestling but with the amount of travel, 30 of 36 months on the road, it was very sporadic. nd now Washington state. I decided to join the military when I was in school just spinning my wheels and not really knowing what I wanted to do with my life. So far it has been the best move that I have done. The connections that I have made will last a lifetime and I know that if I need employment once my tour is done, I have many people in my pocket to be able to call on. I have worked on the latest class of submarines, the VIRGINIA class, and the JIMMY CARTER is the last of the SEAWOLF class. I eventually will find the right lady to settle down with and have children with but now with the boat schedule, it is a bit difficult to work on a relationship when you are out to sea for most of the year.
Do not get me wrong, I love the life I have chosen and I would not change anything that I have done since graduation. The only thing I would change is to still have my mother around. She died by suicide in 1992. Burying her was the hardest thing that I have ever done. Enough of the pity party. Life is good and there is so much more out there to still do that I enjoy every day that I can see the daisies from the sky side.
