TRUDY's Story

Life My life began at Somerset Hospital in 1952. I lived in Rockwood, PA on Main St. with my Mother (Mary Alice Hayman); my Aunt (Gloria Hayman); and my Grandparents, George and Florence Hayman. In 1953 we moved to Johnstown, PA because it was closer to my Grandfather's work on the B & O Railroad. In 1957 I began Kindergarten at the Meadowvale Elementary School and we lived in the Hornerstown section of Johnstown, in PA. After I completed Kindergarten and the First Grade, my Grandfather retired from the Railroad and he and my Grandmother moved back to Rockwood. My Mother married Alex Weir of Johnstown and we moved to the Upper Yoder section of Johnstown, where I attended the Second Grade at the Saint Clement Catholic School. In 1960 my Mother & Stepfather purchased a home in Friedens and I attended the Third Grade at the Stoystown Elementary School. In 1961 I moved back to the home of my Grandparents in Rockwood, PA and attended grades Four through Twelve, graduating from Rockwood Area High School in 1970. In 1970 I married Ron Kreger (also from the Rockwood class of 1970) and we lived for the next seven years in Hexy-Barger (near Kingwood) PA. We owned and operated a Sporting Goods Store for a few years and we divorced in 1977. After living in Geiger (Friedens) for a year, and working at Coleman Company; in 1978 I joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Orlando, FL (8 weeks); Pensacola, FL (4 months); Rota, Spain (2 years); and Keflavik, Iceland (1 year). On my 29th Birthday, 1981, I met my second husband, Darrell Dorsey (A SSgt in the Air Force - formerly from Miami, FL) and in 1982 we were married in Minot, ND, on my 30th Birthday. On March 9, 1983 my only child, Theran Dorsey was born. He was his Father's third child and third Son. In 1984 Theran's Father and I divorced and I began my Civil Service career at Minot Air Force Base. After working there for four years, Theran and I moved to Carlisle, PA in 1988. After working at the Army War College for a year, Theran and I moved to West Haven, CT. I worked at Sikorsky Aircraft, for the Navy as a Contract Specialist Intern. In 1991 we moved to Groton, CT where I worked at the Navy's SUPSHIP at the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamic's Submarine Construction site as a Contract Negotiator. 1992 found us moving to Indian Head, MD where my Son and I lived for three years. I worked in Washington, DC at the Washington Navy Yard, and later, at the FAA Headquarters in DC. In 1995, we moved to Battle Creek, MI and I worked for four years at the Defense Reutilization Marketing Services as a Contract Specialist. I then transferred to the Defense Logistics Information Services (still in Battle Creek, MI) for the next two years & worked as a Supply Systems Analyst. In 2001 we moved to Florida, where we remain in 2023. We lived in Plantation for the first year and moved to Tamarac for four years. We moved to Melbourne, FL in 2006, and after three and a half years, we moved to Palm Bay, FL. We have lived in Palm Bay, FL for seven years. My Son Theran is now 40 years old, and resides in Palm Bay, FL. In 2019, I married Paul G. Friedman (Originally from Johnstown, PA). School: The first school I attended was Meadowvale Elementary School in Johnstown, PA. I attended both Kindergarten and the First Grade at Meadowvale. I attended the Second Grade at Saint Clement Catholic School in Johnstown, PA. I attended the Third Grade at the Stoystown Elementary School in Stoystown, PA. I attended Grades four through six at the Rockwood Elementary School in Rockwood, PA. From the seventh to the twelfth grades, I attended Rockwood Area High School in Rockwood, PA. I graduated from Rockwood Area High School in 1970. I attended Naval Basic Training in 1978 from May until July. I attended Naval Cryptographic Specialization Training at Corry Field in Pensacola, FL from July to October of 1978. While stationed in Rota, Spain I attended numerous Naval, Cryptographic, and Security Training Classes. I attended numerous training classes while stationed at N From 1984 to 1988, I attended numerous Air Force Training classes at Minot AFB, ND. From 1988 to 1989, I attended numerous classes in Philadelphia, PA while working at the Army War College. From 1989 to 1992, I attended many classes geared toward the Naval Contract Specialist Internship Program in Norfolk, VA; Virginia Beach, VA; Washington DC; Warren, MI; Groton, CT; and numerous Computer classes in Maryland and Virgi...Expand for more
nia. From 1993 to 1995, I attended many classes while employed at the FAA Hqrs. in Washington, DC. Most of the classes were held in Washington, DC; Maryland; Virginia; and Pennsylvania. From 1995 to 2001, I attended many Training classes at the Federal Center in Battle Creek, MI; at Fort Lee in Virginia; and at numerous Computer companies around Michigan. From 1996 to 2001, I attended classes at Kellogg Community College, majoring in Business. I also took numerous classes from KCC concerning Blueprint reading, Electrical & Mechanical Symbols, and Cataloging courses utilized in the Supply Systems career field. During the timeframe of 2001 to 2010, I attended many classes concerning Labor/Management issues for the American Federal Government Employees Union; numerous classes concerning the Industrial Specialist career field; the Defense Acquisition University, both online and at Rock Island Arsenal, IL; the DAU at Ft. Belvoir, VA; Huntsville, AL; Dayton, OH; Manassas, VA; Minneapolis, MN; and Los Angeles, CA. I also attended college classes with St. Leo University in Tampa, FL through their online program. College I began taking college courses at the Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek, MI. I was working full time and took classes sporadically, over a four year period. Since moving to Florida, I have attended the Defense Acquisition University, both online and on-site at Rock Island Arsenal in Illinois, and at Ft. Belvoir, VA. I earned both the Level I and Level II Certification for the Production, Quality and Manufacturing Career Field. I also earned Level I Certification in Business and Financial Management, for the Earned Value Management Career Field. I have also attended many classes with the Naval Acquisition Management Training Organization in Norfolk and Virginia Beach, VA. I earned Level II Certification for the Contracts Career Field. I am currently enrolled with St. Leo University in the Business Curriculum. Workplace After High School, I worked at the Princess Anne Factory in New Centerville for about a year. I worked numerous secretarial jobs in Somerset, PA to include: Gilmour Mfg., Bender Shoe, and Cambria Savings and Loan. For several years, my husband (Ron Kreger) and I owned and operated a Sporting Goods Store in Kingwood, PA. I worked at Coleman Company in Somerset for a year, before joining the U.S. Navy in 1978. From 1978 to 1980, I was stationed in Rota, Spain and I worked as a Cryptographic Technician. From 1981 to 1982 I was stationed in Keflavik, Iceland, still working as a Cryptogrphic Technician. From 1984 to 1988 I worked as a Secretary at Minot AFB, ND. From 1988 to 1989 I worked as a Secretary at the Carlisle Army War College in Pennsylvania. From 1989 to 1991, I worked at the NAVPRO in Stratford, CT at Sikorsky Aircraft as a Contract Specialist Intern. From 1991 to 1992 I worked at SUPSHIP Groton for the Navy at Electric Boat. From 1992 to 1993 I worked at the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, DC as a Contract Specialist. From 1993 to 1995 I worked at the FAA Headquarters in Washington, DC as a Cost/Price Analyst. From 1995 to 1999 I worked in Battle Creek, MI for DRMS as a Contract Specialist. From 1999 to 2001 I worked in Battle Creek, MI for DLIS as a Supply Systems Analyst. From 2001 to 2006, I worked in Hollywood, FL for DCMA as an Industrial Specialist. I transferred to DCMA Lockheed-Martin in 2006, and worked as an Industrial Specialist for a year and half at DCMA. In 2008, I transferred to DCMA at DRS Optronics, in Melbourne, FL. I remained there for a year and a half, working as an Industrial Specialist. On March 31, 2009, I was hired as an Earned Value Management Specialist, and worked for two years at Harris Corporation for DCMA. I retired from Civil Service on December of 2010, after 30 years with the Department of Defense. Military: I joined the U.S. Navy in May of 1978, after being on the Delayed Entry Program for one year. I wanted to obtain specific training as a Cryptographic Technician. I spent 8 weeks in Orlando, FL in Basic Training. My Cryptographic Training took place in Pensacola, FL for approximately 4 months. I was stationed at the Naval Communication Station, Naval Security Group Activity in Rota, Spain for 2 years (1978 to 1980). My last duty station was at the Naval Security Group Activity in Keflavik, Iceland for 1 year (1981 to 1982). I was discharged in Philadelphia, PA with an Honorable Discharge.
