Tyson's Story

College After High School, I proceeded to Southern Illinois University to obtain what I thought would be a Music Education degree. Five years later I had a double degree in Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy with a minor in Voice/Opera. What a mouthful! I went on to get my Masters degree in Accompanying from Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music where I was able to work with many world-class faculty as well as guest teachers that have shaped the beginning of my performing and teaching career. It will be important that I continue to learn and grow and as my career has and hopefully will continue to do. Workplace Tyson Deaton Assistant Professor of Voice and Opera Tyson Deaton is assistant professor of voice and opera and joined the Conservatory in 2003. He holds a B.M. from Southern Illinois University, and a M.M. from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. He has studied voice with Richard Best and Terry Lusk, accompanying with Kenneth Griffiths and John Wustman, and piano with Dr. Wilfred Delphin and Richard Morris. He has also done additional work with Martin Katz, Warren Jones, composer Ricky Ian Gordon, and Jane Manning. Mr. Deat...Expand for more
on has had varied experience as a collaborative pianist and coach of both opera and art song. Many of the singers he has coached and taught have sung in venues such as Cincinnati Opera, Chicago Lyric Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Wolf Trap, Central City, Des Moines Metro Opera, and Dayton Opera. In demand as a collaborative artist, he maintains a busy recital schedule and is also becoming increasingly known as a singer of the lyric tenor repertoire. Additionally, he has particular interest in 20th - 21st century music, and Bel Canto opera, along with the song cycle genre. In the Conservatory of Music, Mr. Deaton teaches voice, opera literature, song literature, and does vocal coaching. He is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, and the College Music Society.
