Valerie's Story
Life
After 20+ years itÂs difficult to find a place to start this biography. Like everyone else on the planet, my life has taken twists and turns and has had its ups and downs. Thru the years, IÂve grown up a wee, tiny bit, become more comfortable in my own skin and realized my passions.
A brief portion of my bio must include my immediate family. My mom was a nurse and my dad owned his own construction business. My mom and dad got divorced when I was 18. Both of my parents are now semi-retired. Today my father lives in Panama and my mother lives in Minnesota. I have one sibling; a younger (smarter) brother, David Fisher, who graduated high school in 1986. My brother joined the Marines right out of high school and experienced the front lines during the first Gulf War. After his military service, he pursued (and earned) his MasterÂs Degree in International Business while working full time and married one of the nicest people I ever met, Sonja (Antolik) Fisher. Shortly after 911, my brotherÂs sense of duty beckoned again and he joined the Navy. HeÂs now stationed in Bagdad, Iraq.
I lived in Broadview Park while I attended SPHS. I spent most of my time with the local teenage population. My neighborhood pals included Danny Town, Maria Carrico, Jill Feaster, Kurt Hanford, Jimmy Noe and Beth Kilpatrick. My best friend in high school was Marzia Rodriguez though she didnÂt live in Broadview Park. Since high school, IÂve managed to contact some of my old friends, but wish I could connect with more of them.
After high school, I married Rick Brauer and had a son, Nicholas. Nicholas will be 21 in May 2006. Rick and I got divorced when Nick was 5 years old but Rick and I remain good friends. Rick now lives in TX with his wife, Annette, and Nicholas lives in MN near me. My mother says that though IÂve always been stubborn, my son, Nich...Expand for more
olas, makes me seem completely malleable. Nick is intelligent and has street smarts but does everything backwards just like I did when I was his age. Rather than digress into NickÂs life story, I will continue with mine.
IÂve been constantly employed since the age of 14 years old. During high school, I had the usual after school jobs. My first job was at Burger Thing. Not including Burger Thing, Little SneezerÂs Pizza, Bojangles and other high school jobs, I have held a total of three jobs in 20+ years. I am currently employed at PC Solutions masquerading as an account manager and moonlighting at Argosy University as a student of Veterinary Medicine.
I finally bought my very first home in October 2000 (thereÂs that backwards thing) and IÂll be 40 years old this May. At the beginning of 2005, I talked to my best friend, Lola, about how FAST time flies. It was difficult for me to comprehend that IÂd already lived in my new (old) house for five years! At that moment I decided to pick one of my many passions to pursue as a career. This April, at 39 years old, I started school to pursue a career as a Veterinary Technician. Unlike high school, I currently have a 4.0 GPA. I should finish my studies in 2009 and hope to find a job in the wildlife preservation arena.
My passions include everything to do with nature, touring the U.S. and reading. I dabble at crafts that include homemade cards, sewing and cooking. A few of the most memorable places I have seen include touring the Rocky Mountains in MT and CO, hiking the Grand Canyon (AZ) to the bottom and back out (18 miles) in 2 days, visiting the Black Hills and Bad Lands of SD many times and performing a whirlwind tour of Virginia and Washington DC. Before I die I want to see ME, the Tetons, Yellowstone, Idaho, Utah and the Redwood Forest.
