Valerie's Story
Life
August 19, 1985 I married Kendall in Las Vegas. We met when I rented a stereo from a store he managed. On June 8, 1986 our first son, Kyle, was born (8lbs. 6oz., 22" long). My husband is 6'2", so hopefully Kyle will have his Dad's height when he's grown! December 13, 1990 (at exactly midnight) our second son, Keelon, was born (7lbs. 9oz, 19" long). We were able to choose whether his birthday was on the 12th or 13th. We chose the 13th because it was also his aunt's birthday.
Sept 14, 2002, our boys were 16 and 12, our lives changed forever. Kyle was paralyzed from the chest down in a bicylce accident. He...really we...spent about 8 months in the hospital. After ...Expand for more
2 months in ICU at OU Med Center, he was transferred to Jim Thorpe Rehab Center in SW OKC. He's very strong and determined to regain as much movement as he can and we're extremely proud of him. Our family is doing fine and learning to cope with a "new normal" in our lives.
March 2005, Keelon(age 14), will be finishing the 8th grade this year and beginning his Freshman year at Putnam City North HS. Kyle (age 18) is a Senior at PCNHS and will be graduating with his class this May, and he'll be a Freshman at OU in the Fall Our entire family has faced a challenging journey the past few years, but we're learning, growing, and living every single moment to its fullest.
