Life
Well, where to start? Those of you who know me, (and with a name like Veldena Ladson, you can be pretty sure it's me) know that I am a black woman. You may be just as surprised as I was to know that my husband is white. Or, as he prefers, "Italian American". I met him at a Crafts Fair, we were both vendors there and our booths were set-up across from each other. He was wearing a cowboy hat and boots. (soooo not my type!) As fate would have it, we would chat when sales were slow and the more I talked to him, the more I felt like we were somehow connected, spiritually. Now, I pride myself on being a pretty level headed person, but I fell head over hills in love with him and I didn't even know him! It's been that way ever since. We've been together now for 12 years (this year). And he's still my best friend. I was married once before I met my current husband. Married to "my baby daddy". ...) Anyway, we were high school sweethearts who after MANY years of an off again, on again relationship, decided to move to sunny California, where at the age of 25 we got married and had our son. (yes, in that order) Well, that was 16 years of my life that I can chalk up to experience. We were young, and had no idea what it took to make a relationship last. The marriage ended and that's how I got where I am now. Classmates has put me in touch with Lisa, who at the age of 11 was my very best friend. Although I thought of her often, I never, ever though I would see or hear from her again. Lisa, I love you. You have no ideal how overwhelmed I am to have you back in life. Somehow, you were never really gone. It's amazing the influence our childhood friends have over the rest of our lives. I feel like we could go sit in the sandbox and pick up right where we left off. It's funny how true friends make you feel that way...
