Verne's Story

Life I consider myself somewhat of a Horatio Alger. My fictional hero is Don Quixote, always charging at windmills if I feel it is for a just cause. I can remember in 1st grade choosing to be the class clown because I realized how much attention the other class clowns received. Once I chose that role, I felt I had to live the role until graduating from High School. I always felt I could be a better student and there were moments of brilliance. I can remember sitting on a fence, on our farm, at @ age 12 and contemplating life. Why am I and mankind here on this earth? I decided that there must be more to life than a 70yr span, if you are lucky, and decided there must be something I could do to leave my mark. I contemplated a legacy of: great works of art, architecture, literature, great thoughts, and realized that most of those could be lost, destroyed, and forgotten. I finally decided that the best way I might leave my mark is to strive to make a difference in other's lives, though my name might live on in obscurity, possibly my act of kindness might be passed along to future generations. "I expect to pass through this world but once, Any good thing, therefore, that I can do or any kindness I can show to any fellow human being let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not ...Expand for more
pass this way again."...Stephen Grellet, 1773-1855 French-born Quaker Minister. A couple of favorite quotes: "Scorn pain, either it will go away or else you will."...Seneca, Greek Philosopher; "The mind is its own place and in itself can make a heaven of hell or a hell of heaven."...Milton, Paradise Lost. I left Elgin, recognized by some as "Radical Verne". My main objective, post high school, was to grow my hair as long as I could. After serving my country, US Air Force Medic, for 6 years, I realized that I am a patriot, a conservative, and an avowed opponent of socialism because we are blessed to be citizens of the United States of America. Currently I am a Director of Pharmacy for a small grocery/pharmacy chain in Ohio. I am considered a dedicated professional, with progressive ideals for the profession, and very passionate about what I do. I have been published in a national pharmacy journal regarding a Patient Medication Assistance Program that I set up to serve the low income in Ashland County Ohio. I write a weekly newspaper column for a newspaper in Ashland and Delaware County. Life is good, though my greatest regret is a divorce in my life and the impact it had on my two oldest children. To any of you that I may have offended during my early years, I offer you my humblest apologies!
