Life of Robert D Dorrell (This is my brother Bob's story, this was his account originally. He passed away March 20, 2010) Attended R.O.C.H.S. from 1961 to 1964. Dropped out.Joined the US Navy in Oct 1965. Got out Oct 1969.Worked for the phone company in Calif and; Colorado for 25 yrs. Retired in Feb 1994. I lived in Panarama City, Calif from 1969 to 1972, then Boulder Colorado from 1972 to 1976. Then in March of 1976 I moved to Saramento, Calif. In May of 2003 I moved to Oak Harbor, Wash. I have about 5 acres and don't want to ever move again. College I went to Sacramento City College for 3 yrs, while working 60 - 80 hrs a week for the phone company. I went in thinking I would collect GI Bill money for 1 semester and wouldn't get the required 2.0 to keep getting the money. I got an A.A. degree with a 3.5 average. Not bad for a High School drop out. Military I got lucky out of boot camp and was stationed in Barbers Point, Hawaii. I spent most of my time in the barracks because I only got a little over $100 per month. I used to borrow bus fare to Honolulu and sell a pint of blood for $10.00. That bought me a movie, coke and popcorn, a hot dog on Hotel Street, a drink at the strip joint and bus fare back to the base. I could only sell blood once every 3-6 months though. Who remembers the rumors of stow-aways on the 1969 West-Pac cruise? They are true. A few of my friends and I pulled it of on the trip from San Diego to Pearl Harbor. Who wants details?
