Veronica's Story
School
Hi! Anyways, I've been to so many different schools during my compulsory school years...and sometimes it was great, others sucked. Let's see..I first went to Whittier/Arts Magnet school in Berkeley for Pre-school/Kindergarten; I then went to Cragmont Elementary; Later, I went to Columbus West Elementary until later on in the school year I transferred to Oakland Montessori School in Oakland; I spent a few years there. In 5th grade, I went to St. Anthony's school (a private, Catholic school) in Oakland; to be honest, I HATED that school! I was so glad when the year was over and I was going to go to a different school.
Middle school was cool; I went to Martin Luther King Middle School in Berkeley and the 3 years I spent there were cool (6th grade I thought could've been better...); I graduated in '99. September 1999, I began high school at Berkeley High school, I spent 2 wonderful years of high school there until I moved to Pleasant Hill in 2001 and transferred to College Park High School for the last 2 years of high school. Junior year, I have to admit, was horrible: I was in a new school, 9/11 had happened less than a week after I began school, I didn't know anyone there and I felt lonely without all my friends from Berkeley. But by the end of my junior year, things settled down and I made a couple of new friends, but never forgot my Berkeley friends. I graduated from College Park in June of 2003; I'm finally out of high school!! I also went to Berkeley High's graduation 4 days later to see my friends graduate, it was awesome! We're all outta high school now! \(^^)/
I went to Diablo Valley College (DVC) and had the best 3 years of my life there. I then spen...Expand for more
t two awesome years at UC Santa Barbara and graduated in June 2008 with a major in Japanese. I got a job teaching English as an ALT (Assistant Language Teacher) in Japan and moved there in March 2009; for two unforgettable years, I lived in the city of Yokosuka in Kanagawa Prefecture (which is about an hour away from Tokyo), working for two local elementary schools.
I'm now happy to say that I'm married to a great man. His name is Robert and is a submarine officer for the US Navy. We met in Japan in March of 2010, got engaged in November of that year, then married at the city hall in Yokosuka just 11 days after the Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami hit the country in March 2011. A few weeks later, we moved back stateside to Groton, CT and lived there for 6 months while my husband was attending submarine school. My husband then got his sea duty orders to Washington state (close to Seattle) and moved there in October 2011 and served as the Navigator onboard an Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine. Fast forward to June 2013: we finally had our big wedding ceremony since our families were not with us when we had our city hall wedding 2 years before; it was held at Seattle's most famous landmark, the Space Needle, with 100 of our nearest and dearest guests. We then had our belated honeymoon in the Caribbean the following week. Fast forward to January 2014: after months of waiting, my husband finally got his orders for shore duty and we are now in the final stages of moving back to the city where the story of Robert and I first began: Yokosuka, Japan! We plan to arrive in Japan in April and be there for the next 2 years. Looking forward to living in Japan again :)
