Vesa's Story
I am still in Thunder Bay, but Toronto has been much my 2nd home. I'm retired early from University to College art/design and history instructor as well as having been a guidance counsellor. I graduated from, University of Manitoba, H.B.F.A. and L.University. with my B.Ed. I taught in most Thunder Bay education institutions. Also, I have
I've been involved as a commercial designer. I had been a professional musician, but now just casually playing blues to eclectic music on guitar mostly. I have been married to Jennifer (Knutson) for 33 yrs., [now divorced]. We are blessed to have three resilient, talented boys, all over 24, one at home and the 2 older guys working in Toronto.
I've travelled alone, with friends or family to 5 continents and I continue immersing myself in different cultures. SInce 2013, I have been invited to show my art in International Solo Art Exhibitions as in Havana, Cuba, to Lisbon, Portugal and so on. I have won nu...Expand for more
merous awards in art, design and education. Much of my artworks are in world private and corporate collections. I have also been represented by many galleries as well as a few art agents.
In late 2006 I won the City of Thunder Bay Heritage/Culture Award for 'VIsual Art'. I was prior to that invited to be an art advisor, to represent N.W.Ontario for the Ontario Arts Council, Toronto.
Being retired a bit earlier, I decided to take on more time to sell my art, have World Art Exhibitions, get on to writing my 2nd and 3rd book slowly but surely. MY first one was about my experiences and perceptions as an art teacher off and on in about 5 different First Nation communities. The book is called, 'Culturally Submerged' Journey of a White Res Teacher'. It is still available if you e-mail me at:

I do enjoy travelling the most; and designing freelance on my own terms. I get bored easily...having creative urges to do new things and to challenge my limits. What's life without some adventure.
