Vicki's Story
Life
Life is good. I'm married for 18 years with a beautiful 14-year old daughter. Who I hope doesn't do half the stuff I did in when I was a teenager! I relocated in the 80s and spent 4 years in CA where I went to college and met and married my husband who was in the Navy at the time. We try to get back there at least once a year. He is from CA and frequently asks, especially in the winter, what are we doing here in CT? We live in Madison and live a quiet life, compared to the madness of Fairhaven. We have a King Charles Cavilier who thinks he is a person and a kitty-cat named Blossom. My days are spent shopping, party planning and being present in each moment that comes....
School
I don't miss high school much. It was a rather painful experience for me. I never really fit in and always felt so different than everyone else. It was especially painful for me when my best friend, Theresa Esposito quit. I found myself bouncing from one group to another with no group to call my friends. I also found myself hiding from the bullies in the school. I also emember some funny times there to, just not as many. Our big senior walk-out of 4 people. he boy I stalked for many years...Marc. I don't remember much about the classrooms, work or even teachers. But my classmates, I'll never forget a few of you.
College
I just went back to CA State Long Beach last year for the first time since I graduated in 1993. It was so nice to take my daughter to "The Beach"! Not much has changed to the upper campus. It was very comforting. I majored in criminal justice and recieved by BS. I often consider going back for my Masters but struggle with getting an MSW or just biting the bullet and going to law school.
Workplace
My mother died about a year after graduation. I worked in a factory for a couple of years to support my little sister and started to put myself through college. I graduated college in 1993 and have been working for The APT Foundation in New Haven since. I am the Director of Vocational Service there. It is a very interesting job. I develop programs to help recovering addicts return to work. It is amazing how many Eli Whitney alumni have walked through my doors. I am greatful I have such a rewarding job, but often wonder how that school could have cultivated such an environment where kids drank and did so many drugs.
