Vicki's Story

Life Presently, I'm married for the second time, raising a family of 4 children (Ian, Kyle, Isaac, Cameron)with my husband, Page Jackson, Deputy Director of Assessments for MSHA, Department of Labor. I teach English and Special Education and will retire in 4 years. We live in a single family residence in Herndon, Va. and spend spare time travelling to Germany and Europe, where I have close friends from my former marriage. My oldest biological son is 23, finishing a masters in electrical engineering at VA Tech and my second son, Kyle, is finishing his BA at VA Tech in Finance. Cameron and Isaac are 16 and 13 and reside part time with their mom in Bethesda, MD. We are a large household with two dogs, Mick and Minnie and a cat, Lacy. My mother, Maxine Betzer, resides in Reston. She is 82, full of life still and my best friend. My sister Lynn, lives with her family in Iowa City, Iowa and my brother, Bill, lives with his family in Herndon, VA. l" problems that we are grateful for. We are all burdened by the problems or the world, but remain optimistic about mankind in general. School I started my BA in Drama at Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. and eventually finished my degree in English at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. I returned in 1998 to complete a second degree in Special Education at GMU and finished in 2002. I have been a teacher for Fairfax County at since 1978 Workplace I have been teaching high school English since 1976. My first job was as an ESL teacher to new Vietnamese immigrants. The following year I taught English 7-8 and Adult Ed. From 1978 I would teach 9-10 and then primarily English 12 with some combined classes in Special Ed. until the present. I took all together 4 years off in between to raise my babies and then returned to teach. I will retire from FCPC in 2008 with 25 years service and I haven't decided if I will contine 4 more to give me the full VA state retirement. Likely, I will win the Lottery.
