Vickie's Story
I don't believe there is enough space or time to cover my story on here so I will just try to hit the highlights. I married my husband, Rex during my senior year. He graduated from West in 1966. We immediately moved to Chicago where we lived for three years. Rex was in the Navy. Our daughter was born in 1971 and in 1972 we moved to San Diego, CA. In 1973 we moved back to Wichita and then bought a home in Derby. Our second daughter was born in 1974 and we moved to Belle Plaine, KS. We lived there for 3 years and our son was born while we lived there is 1976. We moved to Kansas City in the early 1980s and I studied Accounting and Bookkeeping. I began working for a banking as a Branch Manager. I worked for 6 years and in 1984 we moved to Los Angeles. I managed a bank there until 1986 when we moved to San Diego. In San Diego my husband and I purchased two franchises we operated until 1992 when we moved to Houston, Texas. I opened a interior design and gift shop there, got my real estate license and then returned to college part time. We moved from back to Wichita in 2001 and I finished my degree at triple major in Gerontology, Psychology and Sociology at WSU. I worked as a real estate agent for a few years until returned to school to earn my Masters from Friends University in Marriage and Family Therapy. I have been working as a therapist since 2007 and love my work. My husband has retired from sales and runs a small business on the side. d one daughter were in the Army. Our son served two tours in Iraq. We have four grandchildren and we enjoy our crazy busy lives. I recently began doing art work again. This was something I had enjoyed off and on over the years but had never made time for it. It is great therapy. We have traveled a lot and as you can see we have moved a great deal. We have been to Germany three times, Sweden, France and most of the European countries. We seem to always have another project or adventure that keeps us busy. We are both very active and enjoy our daily three mile walks. We are both in good health, thank god. I was diagnosed with MS in the late 90's and also discovered I have a rare blood disorder call Von Williebrandts. However, everything is well controlled with medications. I have only kept in touch with a few friends from West over the years but have since returning to Wichita we have reconnected with some old friends. We are big sports fans...especially WSU Girls Basketball. We never miss a game. My husband, like my late father is a big Nascar fan. He never misses a race and even drove one of Dale Earnhardt's car in Texas. We enjoy our home but are not sure if we will stay in Wichita after I retire in a few years. We both love the water and hope to find a place on a lake someday. We have made some great friends over the years and love entertaining our friends here in Wichita. As I said, there is a lot more to my story but these are some of the highlights. I feel very blessed to have an amazing husband, family and awesome clients and friends.
