Vicky's Story
Charles Ray Elliott and I married in March 69. We lived in Commerce and went to ETSU. Chas worked at Jim Clark's mostly and I worked as a hairstylist. I graduated in 72 with a B.A. Chas got his Master's at the same time. That summer he went into the Air Force as a 1st Lt. and we were assigned to Fort Worth. Whhoop de doo! Big far-away move! We were stationed at Carswell AFB for 3 years, where I worked as a hair stylist and we had our first child, Tracey, who is 35 now, had a new baby Kaden in April 09. Yay!!
As it turns out, we needed the close move to Ft. Worth to help cut the family apron strings slowly, because on every other assignment we were always far away and I missed Texas and my family so much. We have lived in Maine, Alabama and Nebraska, where son Sean was born. He is a full time editor for Fox News 31 in Denver. Single. No kids. From Neb we moved on to California, Virginia, England, Germany, Hawaii, and now Monument, CO, which is just above Colorado Springs. Chas retired after 22 yrs as a Lt Colonel, and we have lived here since 1994. We all loved the military life except for being so far from family and friends. We got to travel all over Europe, Greece, and Egypt. We all love Colorado.
We have 2 dogs and 4 cats. We like to ski and hike, but have had to sideline these while middle to old age infirmities in shoulders and hips heal ( hopefully!) We have always kept scuba diving and have been to some wonderful and awe inspiring depths and hope we never have to stop. Nothing hurts in negative bouyancy!!

mall town and enjoyed owning and running it together for over 8 years. It was kind of like going into a store in downtown Commmerce where everyone knew everyone and people were always visiting as much as they were buying. We sold the business in 06 and traveled almost every month for the next 2 years. It was fun but we got kind of tired of packing and unpacking, plus then the economy went bust!
We are kind of just hanging out for now. With the economy so bad now, we will not travel so much and maybe try to do more camping. We have a small Trail Manor and there are so many beautiful places around this area. I think the dogs love it more than we do. We did go on a Carribean cruise since it was our 40th weddiing anniversary this year.
I try to get to Texas and Commerce every year or so. Some years I see the town and feel sad. Some years I see good things happening there and feel happy. I have such strong ties to that town and Texas in general that I can't stay away for too long.
That is just about it for me. I have enjoyed our life very much and we have been very, very fortunate so far. Hope it all continues in that vein!
If I could change something, I would like to have been less self-centered and more aware of other people and their situations when I was a teenager. I think it took me a long time to mature, and I wish I could have grown into my self-confidence and concern for others sooner. And it is such a relief to dress and behave how it suits ME instead of worrying what others will think of it. I loved high school but I would never want to go there again. Ha.
