Vicky's Story
Well, it is finally 20 years post High School Graduation and looking back so much has changed but yet so much has stayed the same. After high school, I headed to NIU to be an accountant. After 4 years and 3 degree changes, I graduated with a degree in teaching Health Education. It is funny how you think you are cut out for 1 thing but you always come back to your first love...looking back I was always into teaching. Wether it be teaching sunday school, coaching younger kids, or even training other people during various summer jobs it always came back to teaching. Health Education you wonder...it really was the only class during high school that I really felt a connection to and could relate to my day to day life.
During my 4 years at NIU, I spent most of my time, when not in class, playing in the marching/pep band. I thoroughly enjoyed my time doing this and made all of my good friends through this. I guess when you are standing outside in freezing cold weather hoping you can still march with 4 layers of clothes on, it brings people together.
Anyway, after I graduated, I headed up to Wauconda to teach jr. high health educa...Expand for more
tion. I enjoyed my time there and made some great friends and colleagues. During my time there, I began working on my Masters and got married. I left there to complete my last set of classes for my masters because I was at the point of not wanting to teach any more.
After a year off from teaching, I quicky realized how much I missed it (and it wasn't even summers off that I missed). Working with kids really was my passion and after I graduated with my masters I was fortunate enough to get a job teaching back in Naperville.
But teaching wasn't enough so back to school I went. During the 9 years (which brings us up to date), I've had 2 wonderful and energetic little boys, got divorced, moved back to Naperville, moved from being a classroom teacher to working with teachers in all different areas and grades in curriculum and technology uses, and completed my Doctorate in Curriculum.
Who knows what the future will bring but what keeps me going is a quote that I found when I started working on my doctorate...."What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us" - Ralph Waldo Emerson
