Victoria's Story

October 15, 2023 I have a daughter & son, both of who work in law enforcement. I have 3 granddaughters who are 15, 11 & 8, & a grandson age 5. I thoroughly enjoy being their Grams! My dad is still with us at 96. He is writing his final technical manual for those in the printing & printing ink industry. He has mellowed out over the years & I find I enjoy his company far more now than when I was young. He is physically frail, but his mind is still sharp. Praise God. School I started school at Mt. St. Mary's Academy in Burlington, then on to Cathedral Grammar for 7th & 8th grades. I can still remember all the Sisters' Of Mercy names. They were THE BEST! I remember them with much, much affection. Sister Mary Brian / Janice Ryan had a positive impact on my life. She taught us kids in 7th & 8th grade to be observant, to analyze, & to fight for justice. She was tough in many ways, but there was never any doubt that she loved us. She is at the top of my list of people who have influenced me in my life. I named my son after her. I started high school at Hardwick Academy. Then because I missed the sisters(!) my parents let me attend Marian High in Barre my last two years. My dad got a work transfer, and we moved from Hardwick three months shy of graduation! I graduated from Bellingham High in Bellingham, WA. in 19...Expand for more
70. I didn't know hardly any fellow graduates and missed my Vermont classmates. My father got another transfer to San Francisco, which is how I came to be in California. College - Solano Community College The most fun was Mr. Siegal's journalism classes. I was editor of the college newspaper for a semester. I earned an AA In Journalism I returned to college (Saint Mary's College of California) and completed a BA in Management in 2007. I admit going back to school was difficult for me, but I enjoyed it & feel I got a lot out of it. I just retired a month ago after 21 years with the State of California. I worked at 4 different agencies throughout my career. I enjoyed my last job working in a state prison hospital in the plant operations division. I had decided to stay working indefinitely, but then the inevitable happened. My eyesight is diminishing as I knew it would at some point. I haven't retired from life! I took on teaching faith formation at my church, which is challenging & a lot more time-consuming than I anticipated. But I love my young students - all 27 of them. I should add: You will not find me in the Seniors photos in any high school yearbooks because I moved away & did not have a picture to submit for the Marian 1970 year book. I'm adding that pic in the "Then" spot to help you remember. <3
