Victoria 's Story
Life as I Know It.........
I didn't go on to college after Murphy, but married a few years later, had one child, and was fortunate to be a "stay-at-home Mom" for almost five years.
After three years in Pre-Law at USA, my Dad's death made it necessary that I leave college for awhile (ten years).
A long Pre-Law internship, and working for attorneys, made it clear to me that I did not want to be in that field after all.
When my daughter, St. Paul's '83, came home from Auburn, she, my Mom and I went to South in '87. It was so much fun to be doing this together. Mom was so stressed out after a year, she "retired" from college.
Romy and I were Mortar Board/'88, & Who's Who in l989. It was an added honor to be the first Mother/Daughter, inducted in each, at the same time, at South.
I graduated in 1989, BS Ed, began grad school, working toward my MBA, completed. I took a position as Corporate Trainer for a large corporation. I began almost nine years of living on the road. I took early retirement rather than relocate, and to care for my ill Mom, whom I lost in 2003. I am so thankful for the wonderful, almost four years we had together. We created memories that will keep her with me for my lifetime.
I began a second degree in Architecture, at Auburn, which was part of my work area, and have a way to go on it. Not being there each week for my class, I am not certain I will complete it.. Also, it was related to my position, and I don't need it now. I am using the architecture classes, to build birdhouses, and the MBA to begin a home based business.
My daughter and her husband are teachers, and I have one lovely granddaughter. I have b...Expand for more
een "single" for 40 years. Live and learn. :)))
I was the President for Mobile Genealogy Society 2000, 2001 & 2002, and Chairman of the Mobile/Baldwin County St. Jude on the Bay Annual Event in 2001. I enjoyed both, but loved the St. Jude event for the opportunity we all had to help raise funds for the medical research and care St. Jude offers to children and teens with all forms of cancer.
Working in the yard, spending time with family and friends, antiquing, genealogy, travel, fishing when it's cool, watching college football, needlework, and photography, and my darling little dogie, keep me busy. I have learned to use the grill on my patio in summer, for most all of my cooking. I have special pans for vegetables, for meats..even eggs and my wok. And, I same so much on my power bill..and keep the house cool. And, eating outdoors is lovely.
My new challenges are bird houses, small workworkig projets, and digital photography. Digital is a world away from years with 35 mm film.
Now that life has slowed down, I wonder about former friends/classmates. Like others, there were some very special people in and out of my life. Some stayed and remain important, and some did not...However, some of the "missing" ones, remain special. Many who are elsewhere, shared special/fun/important times that I miss discussing with them. Sharing old photos with many would be fun.
