Vincent's Story

Hello, I'd love to hear from any of my old classmates and I see that some of you have visited my profile and signed the guestbook but I don't like the way that this site trys to pressure you into a subscription by waving the bait of unknown visitors. Of course, I'll take advantage of the site to see what's going on with you. Anyway, if you are wondering what I'm up to these days... I now live in/near Fort Worth, Texas with the LOML and four (So far) children. I work for a pharmaceutical formulation company developing analytical tests for FDA filings and OTC drugs. I'd rather be developing new reactions for making drug-like small molecules, but this is what I have for now. Good company, good management and Great ownership. After high school I let a full ride schoolarship to UofA slip by me, like the young fool that I was, and worked my tail off for about 3 years at everything from construction to dishwashing. In 1988 I joined the United States Marine Corps. Best thing I had ever done. At that point anyway. The Marines really shaped me up and squared me away. Cliché I know, but the Marines made a man of me. I served four years and loved every bit of it. OK, so I didn't love every bit of it at the time, but looking back, it was the best time of my life. I had a job and a purpose, an honorable purpose. I am proud to have served with 1st LAI, Light Armoured Infantry (Now LAR for light armoured recon), and did 7 mo, 14 days, 12 hrs, 37 min (sic) in Saudi Arabia/ Kuwait during the first gulf war. We were a top notch unit and absolutly the most mobile in the entire desert. Our LAV's were the fastest, most reliable vehicle the was. We could do over 80 mph over any terrian and out run just about anything. Our mobility and firepower, my LAV was equiped with a TOW anti-tank missile system, put us right up on the front line. THe only unit ever out in front of us was force recon. And sometime...Expand for more
s we were used as recon. Thus the new unit designation to LAR. SOunds great, right? Unfortunatly, all goods things come to an end, especially when politics are involved. Our Commanding Officer was promoted and we got a new CO. A politician intent on using our unit to advance his career. And in doing so, he completely screwed up a once elite fighting force and soured me to re-enlistment. My four years were up shortly after the war and I opted out. I often think that it was a misstake, but live and learn. After The Corps, I went to UCSD and earned a BS in Organic Chemistry and worked as an Organic Chemist in San DIego, CA, untill recently. I am now working as an Analytical Chemist in the DFW area, but I hope to get back to the organic synthesis someday. NEVER going back to CA. Well, maybe just to visit the in-laws and the beach. Great weather for vacation, but boring to live in. Not to mention the cost and the LIBERALS taking over. I mean really! San Diego used to be a fairly conservative place to live and raise children, now it's becoming the new San Fran-stinking-cisco. Fort Worth is much more my speed. So far. I met my wife, Dawn in college and we were great friends for several years. We started dating after college, got married and now have four of the smartest, most beautiful children I've ever seen. Dawn says I'm biased. So what, that doesn't make me wrong. We just built a new home out in the country and are loving it. You can catch up on our lives at her blog, if you are so inclined. Please modify the following to the proper format as this site won't let me include a web address - w w w (dot) dawnsblogsite (dot) blogspot (dot) com . She's a little behind at the moment, still getting settled in at the new place and all. That's all for now, feel free to contact me at vincentpbooth at yahoo dot com I hope that you are all doing well and the God Bless you and yours, Vincent.
