Virginia's Story

Life After working in New Bedford for experience and a living, I moved to Boston in 1969 and worked and attended college at Northeastern University, studied classical voice the entire time and made many trips to the Metropolitan Opera with another now-deceased voice student. I was there in Boston during Kent State, and it was a fascinating time. I moved to Maine in 8/1976, and lived in the Waterville area. I worked and attended school at Colby College from 1978-1981. I took a chance and an opportunity and moved to western South Carolina in late 1981; worked and studied at Clemson University from 1982-1987. I ended up with junior year credits in an English ...Expand for more
major, minor in history. Had a chance to head back north in mid-1987, and with being homesick for the North and sick of the southern heat, I did the move and lived in Yonkers, NY from 7/87 until 8/09 when I moved to New Rochelle from then until now. A week after NY arrival, I started at a membership, informational non-profit in Manhattan, from which I retired full-time employment on 2/12 after 24 1/2 years. I've lived in three 'cultures' - city, rural New England and the South, but I'm still a New England gal; I still give thought to returning to either Fairhaven or ME, but have become disabled because of severe arthritis which led to my year-early retirement.
