Virginia's Story
Life
I have finally moved back home!! I'm back living in San Diego. I still work out of San Francisco, but luckily I can work out of the office alot!! I'm a Training Officer with the US Dept. of Education and work with mostly Financial Aid staff at colleges & universities. I love the job - just not the politics! It gives me a chance to get up and 'perform' again. My job also allows me to travel - mostly CA and Washington DC, but occasionally I get to go somewhere new: Chicago, New Orleans, Boston.
I still love theatre and occasionally still dabble in it...either acting, costuming or makeup. My 17 yr old daughter is taking after me...her passion for performing is even higher than mine!
I'm an avid fan of the Chargers (always have been, thanks to my dad!) and for the past few years have gone on the Charger Fan Cruise to Mexico. I love traveling...which is a good thing because of my job. My favorite place being New Orleans - so much character and kindness there. Plus I love paranormal stuff and visiting cemetaries so it all fits in!
My daughter & I are living in the same house I grew up in; just a block from where my best friend's (Moe!) mom still lives. We also have a 3 year old Chocolate Lab named Arwen, an 8 year old Welsh Corgi named Wesley, 2 cats, Bam & Moon and y daughter has a horse, Apollo, who lives in Lakeside.
Workplace
First 'pai...Expand for more
d' job - an extra in the the movie "Almost Summer" (no it's not on DVD/video, but it is listed on IMDB!!).
While in college I put in about a year hard labor at Disneyland - working as a Hostess in the Emporium and doing Parade crowd control. Tough job, but what a great first job. Disney U teaches you everything about work ethic (and fun stuff on shoplifters too!).
After college, and getting married, I worked as a Secretary in the School of Fine Arts at UCI (the Dean liked me since I was a student there, and probably felt sorry for me that I got married so young!).
After a few years there, catering to the extremely talented, passionately devoted, ecclectic professors, me & hubby moved to Stockton where I started in the Admissions and Records office at Delta College, then moved over to Financial Aid.
I lost faith in the school's philosophy and after 17 yrs. ended up at CSU Sacramento working as a Loan Coordinator. That lasted about a year then a training position opened up with the Federal Gov't and I took it! Love to develop training, train and see what I do actually effect the outcome - education for everyone.
My dad once told me that never stay at a job because "you have to" - if it doesn't give you a good feeling, find one that does and make the move. I did and I'm happy!
I am however, still trying to figure out what I want to be when I grow up!!
