Virginia's Story
Life
I taught in Carlsbad Schools for 38 years, after graduating from San Diego State University. While at SDSU, I met my husband of 32 years, Mario, who was from Cuba. Now widowed, I have one son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Monique, and 3 beautiful and brilliant (of course) grandchildren, Justin, Whitney, and Riley. They all live in Riverside, just a little over an hour away, and I get to see them frequently.
Currently, I live in the Fire Mountain area of Oceanside. I'm Adjunct Faculty for Point Loma Nazarene University, in their Education Department, occasionally teaching a class or seminar for them. I also supervise some of their student teachers out in the schools.
I'm also very involved with the Carlsbad Historical Society, serving on their Board, and working as a docent, conducting private tours of our Victorian House (Magee House), and ending the tour with tea served in the Victorian dining room. It's fun to share...Expand for more
early Carlsbad history with those signing up for these tours.
As well, I serve as the coordinator for the Newcomers and Membership Ministry at St. Michael's Church in Carlsbad.
I enjoy live theater, and have season tickets to the Globe Theatre, the Civic Broadway San Diego series, and Lamb's Theater in Coronado. As well, I travel with friends to Ashland Oregon at least once per year, and often twice, for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. We travel to New York for its theater in the Spring.
Having dinner and a movie, or meeting for drinks with my friends also is very important to me, as well as family get-togethers (I have 3 siblings living in the area, as well as a number of nephews and nieces), for holidays or family reunions 3-4 times per year. There are anywhere from 25-40 when we all get together here in Carlsbad.
Retirement is busy, busy, busy! I love every minute of it.
I'd love to hear from any or all of you.
