Virginia's Story
I have to admit that when I first found classmates.com through my research on ancestry.com I never intended to join. The reason is that, after really thinking about it, I could truly not remember any good memories about my time in grade school. This was a shock to me, but true, nonetheless. Then I went through a period of asking why. Of course, it's a no-brainer that kids without parents don't do well. And I remembered all the humiliation that I felt at not being able to be like "other kids". I was not going to write anything.
But then I though about the rest of my life of which I have some pride. So...I am not listing this to brag but to just state that there is much about me that I am proud of. I have a BA from UCSC in Political Theory ('82), before that I was a pre-med student at a Community College (Laney College, Oakland, CA) and I had a 4.00 GPA (until I finally...Expand for more
got a B+ which brought it down to 3.86). I currently work as a licensed massage therapist (last 20 years) and I specialize in orthopedic massage. My first husband was Paul Butterfield, nominated this year for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (but didn't get enough votes). I am currently married (last 24 years) to Ted Wald, who is a jazz (bass) musician who once played with Charlie Parker. I have been a Buddhist since '82 and practice everyday. I do art work and I am a good writer and sometime poet. Forgot to add, I'm in my 7th year as a T'ai Chi practitioner. Currently I am enrolled for another massage certificate, this time in Energy Medicine. So...I have to say that I am a lot happier as an adult than I was as a child.
P.S. I just got back from being interviewed and filmed for a PBS documentary about the Jazz Loft in NYC in 1961 so I imagine it will be on PBS soon.
