Virginia's Story

Life Hi classmates! I'm retired and on disability now for post-polio. I owned and operated a bar for 17 years prior. I have two daughters, 46 yrs. and 42 yrs. old. I have lots of grandchildren!!! I live alone with one parakeet , one cockatiel and one turtle. I have fond memories of North Street School and East Frankfort School and Ilion High. It's been a very long time since I'd seen anyone, till I went to the 30th class reunion in 1995. It was great to see some of the old classmates. And sad to hear of the ones who have passed on. I put a few pictures on here from the 30th for you all to see. The one shows how I merge a bunch together. I know I didn't graduate with you in 1965, but I went through all the grade schools and most of high school till my mother died and we all got split up and I foolishly got married, to get out of going into a foster home! I thought I could save some of my brothers and sisters from going into them too. Didn't quite work out the way I planned though, but life never does. I'm the oldest of eleven. I'm very content at this age, even though I have to use my crutches again. At least I'm not in a wheelchair ! Not yet anyway. I write poems when I'm in the mood and short stories. Mostly about family. Update: I went to the 40th reunion and it was a "Blast From The Past" Had a great time, and enjoyed seeing lots of my classmates. Hopefully I'll make it to the next one!! Oh! I made all the place mats too!!! See! My photo work does come in handy!!! Update: July 1, 2007 I'm not a paying member so can't read guest book entries or mail. Sorry. Our class is having a 60th birthday get together this July. I won't be attending. It's too hard to walk around any more. I'm quite the loner anyways and love staying at home with my critters. My sister, Christine, passed away last October. She had Colorectal cancer that went to her liver. That was tough to watch. I never want to see that again with anyone. Well, that's all for now. I'll try to get back here more often. Update: April 10, 2009 I heard from Carol Henry a while back. Seems Tom Stark wants to have a party next year with all the people that grew up in that area. But get this. He wants everyone to travel down to Florida for it..Ha! Ha! I wonder if it will pan out and he will really have it? He had quite a list of people from Montgomery St and Shull and all those streets around there. Those were the best times of my childhood when I lived up there on Montgomery. It was a nice neighborhood. I go...Expand for more
t mad at Tom one summer when I was at camp with Carol. He held my head so long under water that I was in a panic. I really thought I was going to drown.. I don't think I talked to him much after that. Funny how we remember things like that. These days I'm not feeling too well and my legs are getting weaker. But I'm still photographing all the wildlife I see from my windows. And I see a lot!! I have web pages all over. Got way too many photos on webshots too. Yikes. I've been blogging lately. In fact I wrote about my childhood. I want my grandchildren to read it. I do digital scrapbooking also. That is fun. On Webshots my user name is ginnyann105 if anyone cares to look at some pictures. That's all for now. I stay connected on Facebook and Myspace too. Quite a few from the class are on FB. Update-October 2009 I have been diagnosed with Colon Cancer. My CEA levels are high so it might already be in my lymph nodes. For now I am refusing all treatment and staying on a strict juicing program. If it doesn't work then I will have surgery if I can. But I don't want Chemo or Radiation. It's a tough decision since I saw my sister die from all that. Whatever the outcome will be, I'm ready for it. I never wanted to end up in some nursing home anyway. Update February 2011 I had surgery on November 22, 2010 to remove the rectal tumor. They took out everything and sewed me up and I now have a permanent colostomy. I am feeling 100% better than I have for the past two years. The cancer is all through my liver though so I won't be on this earth much longer but am going to enjoy each day that I am here. So far I am not on any meds and have no pain in that area. I'm happy. Update June-2012 Well, I'm still here! Ha! Fooled those doctors so far. They said I'd be dead in a year. And since I thought I was going to die that fast I ate everything and anything I wanted. Gained 50 lbs. in one year! Yikes! I do feel a small growth in my right lower side but no pain so I'm leaving it alone. The only thing that bothers me these days are my legs and back. I have good days and bad. I still won't take anything but a couple of Ibuprofen each day. I think I'm doing quite well! I'm on Facebook under Virginia Miller if anyone wants to find me. Sorry that I can't reply on here to anyone. I'm still not a paying member. So I'll just say Hi to those that I couldn't answer to. Lois and Steve. Steve. Are you on Facebook? I'd leave my e-mail here but they won't let me. Take care everyone. Hopefully I'll have another update in the future! Update: October, 2014 I'm still alive!
