One of Virginia's favorite quotes is:"“Music speaks what cannot be expressed, soothes the mind and gives it rest, heals the heart and makes it whole, flows from heaven to the soul.”". More about Virginia:"Kin to McManus, Nettles, McGee, and Pearsons of Alabama I was born Virginia Louise McManus on June 19, 1956 at Barberton Citizens Hospital in Barberton, Summit County, Ohio. My father, Richard Lydell McManus, was 30 years old and worked as a foreman for Poston Construction Company. My mother, Joyce Nettles McGee, was 26 years old at the time. I was the only child born to Richard and Joyce that was born in a hospital. All the other children were born in the local Doctor's office in Wilcox County, Alabama. I married STEPHEN DOUGLAS PORTER, SR., 28 Jun 1975. in Pinellas Park, Florida. He was born 17 Jul 1949 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio. We separated in 2005. To this union were born 5 children: Brandon, Crystal, Lewis, Stephen Jr., and Joyclyn. ...Expand for more
Brandon is a disc jockey in Mobile, Alabama. Crystal is a special child that has cerebral palsy but always has a smile. Lewis graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design with a BA in Animation and a BA in Illustration. Stephen Jr. was stillborn and is buried in Sylacauga, Alabama. Joyclyn is another special needs child that has Asperger’s Syndrome. She is very creative and does lots of art drawings. From 1994 to 1996, I studied piano and pipe organ with Ms. Sarah Scott in Alexander City, Alabama From 1996 to 1997, I studied performance under world renown pianist Charles Edward Eikner at Wesleyan College for women in Macon, Georgia. Inherited talent from both my mom and dad I think. Mom played piano and Dad played anything that had strings. His first love was steel guitar. I can remember mom playing for every church we attended. In 1997, we got our first computer. By this time my parents and grandparents had passed on and I felt that my children were not connected to any of their relatives. Researching became my new love other than music. I started meeting cousins online and my kids now warn others not to get me talking about genealogy. Ha! Ha! My mother use to say that we had gypsy blood in our veins as we always moved so much. I have not proved this to be true. (I think this was just her love for traveling.) If you do not write down the stories of your childhood how will your grandchildren and grandchildren know of all the wonderful and not so wonderful experiences you had growing up. That is what I would like to do for my family. I love researching our family genealogy. God Bless, Virginia McManus Porter".
