Vykki's Story
Life
I've been Vykki Caplan,
Vykki Ruvalcava,
and now Vykki Morgan.
I'm a grandmother of 8 and great-grandmother of 6 in all (updated May 2022), and I love it!
I have had extreme highs and extreme lows -- not that much in the middle! I met my husband while I was on a cruise in the Caribbean. He is from Scotland and we just both happened to be in the Caribbean at the same moment in time. He wore a kilt (boy did I blush when I checked what was or I should say wasn't underneath it!) at our wedding. :-)
I'm watching cartoons with my granddaughter right now. (Well, I was when I wrote this originally. Now she is the mother of my great-granddaughter.)

Update: 2-23-12 My son, DJ Ruvalcava, passed away this month. (I wrote this 10 years ago!) I started a Smile Train donation page for him that has his story and some pictures. If you go to Smile Train dot org and "find a tribute fund" you will find him under DJ Ruvalcava. He had a rough life. He was handicapped. He was special. I will really, really miss him. I am grateful he will no longer suffer pain in this realm.
School
I went to Los Al for 3 semesters. The first semester of 10th grade - then I moved to Riverside. The first semester of 11th grade - then I moved to Japan. The first semester of 12th - then I graduated. I hung out in the Biology Lab with Ms. Bourasa and my best friend up through high school Patti McGowan. I had a horse and left school regularly to go riding. I loved the flexible scheduling. It kept life from being boring, didn't it!
College
I attended several schools on my way to figuring out what I wanted to do:
Cypress JC, CSULB, Whitley College of Court Reporting, RCC, Chaffey, Cal Poly Pomona, National University, and Pepperdine University. I hope I didn't leave any out :-)

2022 - professor emeritus now. I retired in 2018 -- but still working part-time.)
Love it!
Workplace
I'm a (retired) court reporter and (retired) teacher. I also taught closed captioning. DID YOU KNOW that it's court reporters that do all the live captioning of shows that aren't pre-scripted? I was certified writing at 260 words per minute. I went into educational technology and taught online almost exclusively and still work part-time. I love what I do!
1-2-24 I had a blast at our 50-year reunion! It all just felt really good -- from Friday night at the main reunion, to Saturday meeting at Los Al campus and seeing all the changes (and all that remains the same), to our lunch at "Griffins Grille" which happens to have a room dedicated exclusively to Los Al memorabilia and that's where we had our lunch the day following the reunion. Different groups of people came to each event. There were some who only came to the reunion, some who only came to the campus, and some who only came to the lunch -- (and a few like me who went to it all :-)
It was a pleasure to see those of you I met up with, my friends!!
(Just a thought...) It IS possible we might arrange something there on a yearly basis if some alumni would like to attend (the room holds about 45 pretty comfortably) and I'm thinking maybe the first week of October?? It does have to be arranged in advance... and it requires a financial commitment to a certain amount of food being purchased... and there was a small room fee... but everyone then would be able to order off the menu so no more planning than that. So let's see if the first Saturday in October '24 anyone might like to gather again for lunch. We have a Facebook Group "Los Alamitos High School Class of 1973" and that's where we could put the info and see if anyone is interested. So check it out!
