walt's Story
I worked for over 20 years as a union rep at Local 598 at the truck plant. I started the Sam Duncan Memorial Scholarship Fund for handicapped students. I also started the Montrose Athletic Hall of Fame. I have always been in baseball. I started my coaching career in ametuer connie mach baseball in Flint in 1967 thru 1982. I was also a part time major league scout. Baltimore Orioles 1972-1977 and Toronto Blue Jays 1977-1982. In 1978 I was selected to be the head coach of the United States Junior Olympic Baseball Team. We played at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs and won the gold medal. In december of 1982, I became the Head Baseball Coach at Saginaw Valley State University. I am still there, and will be coaching my 30th team next spring.

94, when we moved to Montrose. We have three children. Christy, who is an elementary teacher in the Davison schools. Steve, who works for the United States Department of Labor in Chicago. Scott, who just got his masters while being an asst. coach at SVSU. He will be missed next year. Both of my boys played for me at SVSU. That is it in a nutshell.
I miss the old days at Utley, they were great ! Ainsworth was ok, but it was never the same. You know you are getting old when you now are coaching the sons of the guys you played with. The present superintendent of Carmen-Ainsworth played for me in the early 1970's. And Carmen-Ainsworth's asst. superintendent's son is our current starting second baseman.
The more things change, the more they stay the same. My mother still lives in the same house on Anoka St. ( since 1948)
