Walter Dick's Story
Left Valley HS quickly. My father got transferred. I got involved in the Civil Rights movement down there and was fortunate to know Martin Luther King. Ended up at Wake Forest University where I met my wife of 51 years now.
Spent my career in Human Resources, designing self insured health care plans. Rewarded for my efforts by having two minor strokes by age 50. Fun, right!
Found a second career cooking Italian food with the Executive Chef of the Italian Embassy in DC. Ended up in Charleston, SC, as a wine buyer for Harris Teeter on Kiawah Island.

Strange, winding road my life took but I always remember my friends at Valley HS fondly. Good times.
Spend my time now tending the former slave garden at Magnolia Plantation as a volunteer. Also volunteer on Edisto Island on a sea turtle preservation project. Moving nest below high tide mark and doing inventories of hatched nests. Gives me a purpose! Have two lazy, old southern bird dogs(Llewellyn Setters) that like to sit out on our front porch and have a dram of whiskey and share a good cigar while listening to classic rock and roll and blues music.
