Walter's Story
Life
I grew up a few blocks south of Hinsdale Central High School. I lived baseball when I was a kid. I played in little league for 5 years then Babe Ruth for one year. My parents divorced just before I entered eighth grade. We moved to Woodridge for a couple of years. I attended Jefferson Jr. High my eigth grade year and Downers Grove North my Freshman year. I played baseball both years. My fondest memory playing baseball at North was playing Hinsdale Central. I was pitching that game. I beleive that I lasted 5 innings. I picked off Kevin Gavin twice in that period. He prbably still talks about that - Noboby picked him off, he was too fast. Towards the last few innings Central was on to my pitching. Tom Sandy & Jim Klein both tagged me for homeruns. I was finished.
You see, I played baseball with all these guys growing up. They didn't know who I was. I was a couple of years since they saw me.
Eventually we moved back to Hinsdale. In two and a half years everyone seemed to change - grow up. Tried to make the baseball...Expand for more
team a couple of years but was unsuccessful. I bumped into Rob Dunn in my gym class. It was good to see a familiar face.
I hung out with Rob Dunn, Rick Lebeck, Eric Turner & Chris Birck through high school. Tom McDonnell, Mark King & Jeff Drenovsky were others I hung around with.
After high school I worked alot, partied alot & worked even more. Chris Birck & Tom McDonnell are still friends.
I met my wife Haydee while working at Marie's Catering in Hinsdale. We married in 1992. We have a son who was born in 1993, Brandon. I even opened a restaurant with Chis Birck & his wife Christine along with my wife Haydee in 1996 called Branmor's American Grill. We are still going strong after 11 years. My daughter Samantha was born in 2005.
Over the years I have bumped into alot of old friends, worked with a few of them and even seen some become very successful.
I believe this is such a cliche - "If I had a second chance to go back to high school, I would certainly do it" I had a great time while attending Hinsdale Central.
