Walter's Story

The "now" photo is a portrait of my wife and me on vacation at Martha's Vineyard, May 2014, for our 20th wedding anniversary. The "then" photo is a portrait of me taken for the college yearbook in my senior year of college around 1987. After high school, I received a BS in Computer Science from Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville in March 1989. I then moved to Maryland where I worked for the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for 3.5 years as a UNIX system administrator. In September of 1992, I took a job at Fannie Mae in Washington, DC where I worked until Jan 2009 when Fannie Mae laid me off. I am now back at NIST in an IT supervisor capacity over a group of IT professionals. In July of 1992, I met my future wife Debbie. We married in May 1994. Debbie is a Maryland native. She too has a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, hers from the University of Maryland in College Park in Dec 1988. Debbie is a supervisor with the DoD. We have no kids and no pets. We enjoy our home and hobbies, and we work hard in our careers. I also have a photography business on the side creating portraits for families, professionals, musicians, concerts and music industry professionals. See me online at WalterRowe com Facts About Me I hate reality TV shows because they aren't reality at all. I am thrilled that Jay Leno no longer hosts the Tonight Show. I hated how he thought he must explain every joke. We aren't idiots. He isn't Dennis Miller. His jokes aren't over our heads. Enough alread...Expand for more
y. I love true crime television shows like FBI Files, Crime & Investigation Network, and Investigation Discovery. I don't know why criminals fascinate me, but they do. True crime movies also fascinate me, as well as horror movies. I founded a site for professional music photographers. I have met and photographed many senior Congressman. If I could earn a living as a photographer, I would do it full-time. One day maybe! I worked at Fannie Mae for 16.5 years. I would not have predicted that the company would be where it is today. My longest friendship is with a childhood church mate Chris, whom I met at church at the age of six in 1971. We are still friends nearly 50 years later. I only wish we lived closer and could keep better in touch. He is a pilot and flies international flights a lot so we rarely get time to talk. I still keep up with lots of childhood friends from those days via Facebook. If you want to catch up with me, please find me there. I'm easy to find. I still remember the day Neil Armstrong stepped on the moon. My parents made me watch it though I was only four years old. I'm grateful for having witnessed the historical event. I hated history in high school and college, and barely passed any courses on the subject. Today I love it. I'm especially fond of early American history, the civil war, and politics. Biographies on the Presidents and the founding fathers are a favorite of mine. I'm also like executive biographies .. Jack Welch, Steve Jobs, Kathryn Graham, Norman Schwarzkopf.
