Walton's Story

Life I joined the Canadian Forces in Sep 1972 as a Military Policeman. I have been posted to Comox, BC ('73-'75), Moose Jaw ('75-''80), Lahr, West Germany ('80-'84), Winnipeg, MB ('84-'92), Borden, ON ('92-'94) and finally, Winnipeg again ('94-present). I lived six months in Eygpt in 1977 and then lived six months in the Golan Heights (United Nations observation zone between Israel and Syria)in 1997. I retired from the Regular Force in July, 1999 after 27 years (actually 26 yrs and 342 days completed). In July, 1999 I joined the Air Reserves as a Training Manager. In Jan 2001 I was promoted to Master Warrant Officer and then in May 2001 I was commissioned as a Captain. From Aug 2002 until Mar 2003 I served 8 months in Bosnia, at a place called Banja Luca. I was medically evacuated from that location for four weeks due an illness. I have ten grandchildren (grand- daughter aged 15 and a grandson aged 12) from my oldest daughter. My second daughter had two girl now 8 and 6 years old and one boy now 4. My youngest daughter is married to a retired military man and a farmer. They have five kids and that's all it is going to be, apparently. I attended Central's 100 Reunion and thought it was a great success except that of the 18 1972 Graduates only approximately 7 showed up, by my count. This is sad particularly with so many located locally to Moose Jaw. But that is the way the cookie crumbles, eh? Deb Cowan and Joan Henderson (married names not recalle...Expand for more
d) deserve many many Kudos for the phenomenally fantastic job they did. Apparently, 2000 Grads from various years showed up to make it a was truly a fantastic event. I dare say not many of us will be there for the 200th Reunion but we can only hope the school still stands by then. It was a particularly sweet thing to see Mr Reesor (still intimidating in his size although the Marine brush cut is now gone); Mr Al Hill looks almost exactly the same as he has not gained an ounce; and of course our own inductee into the Central Hall of Fame - Mr Bob Currie, Saskatchewan's Poet Laureate, whose voice still sounds as melodic as it did in Gr 11 and 12. I must also comment on the excellent help provided by the current Central students at the breakfast on Saturday and throughout the event, particularly performing singing during the Lit skit. The Juke Boy Actors and their cohorts did a fantastic comedic job during the Lit skit. It was truly great to see Joanne Clarke Spriggs, her husband Paul (no changes there), Bill Baker (skinny as ever), Jerry and Pattie Erickson (newly retired from the Canadian Forces), Denny Nicolik, Sherry Milligan Etherington (no changes there). I retired as a Major in my 42nd of military service in May 2014, not by choice but was aged out at 60 years of age. I worked with Corps of Commissionaires at RCMP HQ in Winnipeg for five before retiring due to health reasons. The lifelesson I've learned is that Grand-children make it all worthwhile.
